In the short video, the camera panned across a part of a forest before Kaling turned the camera on her own face and winked. Although the video did not reveal very much, Kaling added an interesting hashtag to her vague caption.

"Hey guys, I'm in Montana, is anything happening in LA? #themindyproject," Kaling wrote in the caption.

The Mindy Project has a cult following but has not gained a large audience and Fox have pulled the plug on the project. The finale of the third season aired in March but the episode attracted just over 2 million viewers, a serious decline from the first season finale of over half a million viewers.

Fans have not reacted well to the news of the cancellation, taking to social media to lament the loss of their beloved show with many criticising Fox for their decision.

However, if Kaling's wink is anything to go by, there may still be hope for The Mindy Project. Hulu, the online subscription service, is reportedly interested in the show. The Mindy Show's producer, Universal Television, is in talks with Hulu for additional series, according to reports in EW. Hulu already owns the streaming rights to all of the show's episodes and, although the service has not previously produced The Mindy Project, it does have an original programming division.
