Miranda Hart is returning to Call The Midwife.
The 43-year-old actress played Chummy Browne in the BBC show, before leaving in the fourth series to concentrate on her Hollywood career. She starred opposite Melissa MCCarthy and Jason Statham in last year's (15) comedy movie Spy but is set to make a comeback to the small screen for the Christmas special of the midwifery show.
Chummy's absence from the show was explained by her being moved to a mother and baby unit, but her on-screen husband PC Noakes (played by Ben Caplan) has been kept in the show to allow her return.
Call The Midwife's makers Neal Street Productions told The Sun newspaper on Tuesday night (05Apr16): "We’ve been bursting to share the news Chummy has left the mother and baby unit and is heading back to Poplar for series six!
"We’re thrilled to be once again featuring Miranda Hart and her fabulous blend of warmth, strength and vulnerability as Chummy gets to grips with the medical and social challenges of the 1960s."
Miranda previously revealed that she thoroughly enjoys stepping into the character of Chummy.
"I’d do Chummy until the end of my days. Love her," Miranda told the Radio Times magazine. "I just really enjoy playing her again, putting the glasses back on. I love her so much. She’s brilliant."
The next series of the hit show, which stars Jenny Agutter and Helen George, will be set in South Africa, where the midwives fly out to in order to help struggling babies in the country.
The cast have been seen filming scenes in Cape Town.
A source told The Sun of the new series: "The South African scenes are going to be very emotional."
