The news comes just two weeks after frontman Isaac Brock told Rolling Stone magazine the bassist was brought in to work with his band on new album Strangers To Ourselves - but the collaboration didn't work out.

Brock explained, "He's (Novoselic) one of the nicest dudes I've met, likes to party... (but) Krist's got a specific style that doesn't necessarily lend itself to a large variety of songs."

The frontman revealed he is hoping some of the songs the band recorded with Novoselic will make it onto Modest Mouse's next album - and now it seems the Nirvana star will be a big part of the project.

Brock says Novoselic's contribution "fits the companion piece to this record a bit better".

He adds, "We basically made two records at the same time."
