Isaac Brock, the lead singer of alternative rock band Modest Mouse, has been sued for nearly $1 million regarding a traffic accident last year in which he fell asleep at the wheel.

Brock – whose band’s 2004 signature hit ‘Float On’ featured a lyric that went “I backed my car into a cop car the other day” – was cited by police regarding the accident in Portland, Oregon back on August 3rd 2016 where he struck a city of Portland pick-up truck after he fell asleep while driving.

He was not charged with a crime following the investigation at the time, having paid a $435 fine, but now a city employee, 41 year old Cassidy Kane, is suing Brock for just over $865,000 for injuries she sustained in the accident.

In their report, police said that Brock failed to stop as his vehicle approached traffic that had stopped near Morrison Bridge in downtown Portland. It struck the rear of the city pick-up driven by Kane, with as many as four other vehicles also being rear-ended in sequence. The singer told officers that he had fallen asleep at the wheel. Tests could not confirm whether he was intoxicated at the time, so he was fined for careless driving.

However, Cassidy Kane is claiming that the accident caused herniated discs in her spine and did other damage to tissue and muscle that continues to cause pain and numbness in her extremities. She will require steroid injections and may need to have surgery, the lawsuit states that was filed in Multnomah County Circuit Court on Wednesday (November 29th), according to Oregon Live.

Modest Mouse have been active for over two decades, becoming one of the biggest alternative rock acts in America in the noughties. Their last album, Strangers To Ourselves, arrived in 2015 after an eight-year hiatus between records.
