Going In Style Trailer

There comes a point in life where you get to a certain age and realise that right and wrong no longer means anything. Being a law-abiding citizen sure doesn't guarantee you comfort or security, so when Willie (Morgan Freeman), Joe (Michael Caine) and Albert (Alan Arkin) find they have had their pension payments cut off, they really have nothing else to lose. When Joe visits the bank to have a meeting about his mortgage repayments, he witnesses a professional bank robbery and is so impressed by the organisation of it that he decides enough is enough; he wants to get in on that kind of action himself. So these three long-time buddies band together to pull off the ultimate theft of the bank that is systematically destroying the lives of hard-working citizens, get their money back and give the rest to charity.

Now You See Me 2 Review

Good

While the original 2013 magical caper was a big hit, it's style-over-substance approach didn't exactly scream out for a follow-up. But here we are, with go-to sequel man Jon M. Chu at the helm (he also directed the second Step Up and G.I. Joe movies). Most of the high-octane cast is back for more trickery, but the plot is even murkier this time.

Since their last whiz-bang stunt, the Four Horsemen have been laying low. Their leader Dylan (Mark Ruffalo) continues to work in the FBI, helping Daniel, Merrit and Jack (Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson and Dave Franco) plot their next caper, now joined by quirky illusionist Lula (Lizzy Caplan). Their latest project is to expose corruption at a New York conglomerate, but the stunt is ambushed, and the quartet mysteriously finds themselves in Macau, coerced by a tech genius (Daniel Radcliffe) into staging an elaborate heist. Meanwhile, Dylan's cover is blown, so he teams up with veteran Thaddeus (Morgan Freeman) and heads to Macau himself, chased by his FBI boss (Sanaa Latham). And it all goes down in London.

The round-the-world plot gives the movie some very cool locations, and the plot races so quickly that most audiences won't notice that it makes virtually no logical sense at all. There are flashy distractions at every turn, from sleight of hand to vanishing acts to gross-out gags to enormous double-bluffs, and all of this is thoroughly entertaining even if the script itself feels strangely incomplete. Most sequences tend to end before they get to the point, while action scenes are choppy and incoherent. The only set-piece that works is the kinetic central heist, which hinges on a rapidly flung playing card. But even though it's uneven and clunky, the film remains entertaining simply because of the magical shenanigans and snarky dialogue.

Morgan Freeman Admits To Being Sexist - But Says He Isn't Misogynistic

Morgan Freeman

Morgan Freeman has defended recent comments he made about his female producing partner Lori McCreary, saying he may be sexist but that he’s not misogynistic.

The 79 year old actor, famed for his iconic voice, made some controversial remarks at a panel discussion at the Produced By conference organised by the Producers Guild of America, which he attended with his long-term producing partner McCreary. She co-founded Revelations Entertainment with Freeman in 1996, and produced his 2001 movie Along Came a Spider and 2009’s Invictus.

London Has Fallen Review

Weak

It didn't seem possible, but somehow this action movie is even more preposterous than its predecessor, 2013's over-serious Olympus Has Fallen. Gerard Butler is back as a Secret Service agent protecting US President Aaron Eckhart, this time in a Taken-style scenario in which they leave America only to be immediately thrown into the middle of a massive terrorist attack. But the script is so lazy that there isn't a moment when any of this is remotely believable.

Events are put into motion when the British prime minister dies of a heart attack and security services only have a few days to lock down London so that the world's leaders can arrive for the funeral at St Paul's Cathedral. Mike (Butler) flies in with his boss Lynn (Bassett) on Air Force One, accompanying President Asher (Eckhart) and a platoon of bodyguards. Then just before the funeral, a carefully orchestrated series of bombings and gun attacks take out five heads of state. Of course, Mike and Lynn get Asher out of the fray, but an army of bad guys led by terror mastermind Kamran (Waleed Zuaiter) pursue them across the city. Back in Washington, Vice President Trumbull (Morgan Freeman) and the panicky cabinet (including Haley, Forster and Leo) watch all of this unfold on video screens and coordinates a counter-attack.

Even with four screenwriters, the movie makes no real sense. And worse than that, the filmmakers never take advantage of the story's potential or the heavy-hitting cast. There's a line about how all of London's landmarks have been destroyed, but the on-screen destruction is limited to just one of Westminster Abbey's towers. The depiction of world leaders is laughably cliched. And the award-winning actors have nothing to do but stand there looking worried. By contrast, Butler charges around shooting and stabbing everybody who moves in a display of shockingly brutal machismo. Eckhart is more believably reluctant to join in and dispense some violence, but of course he does.

Do The Black Oscars Really Need To Be Brought Back?

Academy Of Motion Pictures And Sciences Morgan Freeman

With the #OscarsSoWhite debate still ongoing ahead of the 88th Academy Awards, there's now talk about the resurgence of the Tree of Life Awards, known informally as the Black Oscars. It was an event to celebrate the achievements of black stars who had been left out in the annual Oscar nominations.

Morgan FreemanMorgan Freeman thinks the problem runs deeper than the Oscars

We are yet to hear the end of this diversity issue, which has erupted over the lack of black candidates among this year's Academy Award nominations, a travesty echoing last year's situation. The likes of Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett-Smith have chosen to boycott the ceremony as even Smith himself failed to secure a nod for 'Concussion', while 'Chi-Raq' director Spike Lee will also avoid attendance. Does this mean it's time for black actors and filmmakers to recognise their own achievements separately?

After becoming the most famous magicians in the world with their last tricks and exposing the wrongdoings of Arthur Tressler, it was obvious that as many people as they helped, they'd always upset a powerful few. One of those is Arthur's son, Walter Tressler.

Walter is on a mission to cause The Four Horsemen as much damage as possible. In order to stop Walter, the four magicians must pull off a stunt far bigger than their first.

With Isla Fisher pregant and unable to commit to the film Lizzy Caplan (Masters Of Sex) has been brought in to play the role of Lula. Other than Isla, all the lead cast from the first film will appear in the new film and Daniel Radcliffe will play the role of Arthurs son, a tech magnate.

Morgan Freeman's 'Momentum' Runs Out At Box Office, Taking Just £46

Morgan Freeman Olga Kurylenko James Purefoy

Some films perform below expectations when it comes to the box offices; some movies flop completely; and others are absolute disasters. Morgan Freeman’s new thriller Momentum belongs firmly in the third category, with a UK box office opening weekend of a paltry £46.

Yes, that is correct. Just £46, with average taking of £4.60 per screen on which it was shown. Of course, it never helps matters when just 10 cinemas show a movie, two of which reported no customers whatsoever, but Freeman’s newly released film ranks as one of the very worst of all time in terms of commercial performances.

RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman: The world lost a true talent when actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his apartment last Sunday after a suspected heroin overdose, aged 46. Thougha autopsy results were ruled inconclusive, drugs paraphernalia was found littered all over his house after the Oscar-winning actor suffered a relapse to substance abuse despite having been clean for more than 20 years.

The father-of-three's break-up with his partner Mimi O'Donnell is said to have caused the Capote star to turn to drugs and not the confusion over his sexuality, as was falsely alleged by the National Enquirer. Since the death, four suspected drug dealers have been arrested and are being questioned with regards to selling Hoffman, who was found with a syringe in his arm, a bad batch. Sadly, we have lost one of the only actors working today whose acting prowess meant we'd instinctively trust any film with his name. Philip Seymour Hoffman (1967-2014).

One of nature's most endearing and unique creatures, the lemur, arrived at their African island home of Madagascar several millions of years ago at the time of the dinosaurs through oceanic dispersal (meaning they travelled atop vegetation that was swept out to sea) and have since enchanted the world with their unusual social behaviour, ghostly communicative noises and whimsical movements. However, since the settlement of humans on the island began, lemurs have been at risk of extinction with many unusual species having already died out. There one of nature's most astute survivors and yet there is a desperate struggle to keep their habitat protected for a few more decades.

Five Actors, Five Oscar Winners, But Is 'Last Vegas' Any Good?

Robert De Niro Morgan Freeman Michael Douglas

It's hard to remember another film in which the five lead roles were played by Oscar winners. And the fact that all of them are over 60 might be another record. So Last Vegas couldn't help but draw attention due to its casting long before anyone knew what it was about (although the concept isn't exactly deep and complex).

Michael Douglas has two Oscars: for producing best picture One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) and as best actor in Wall Street (1987). Robert De Niro also has two: supporting actor for The Godfather Part II (1974) and best actor for Raging Bull (1980). Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline both have supporting actor awards, for Million Dollar Baby (2004) and A Fish Called Wanda (1988), respectively. And Mary Steenburgen won supporting actress for Melvin and Howard (1980).

Morgan Freeman Gerard Butler Aaron Eckhart

If you thought Olympus Has Fallen was bad, then wait until you heard this: the brainiacs at Millennium Films have decided a sequel is in order, and will move the action over to the U.K in London Has Fallen.

The news of a sequel was broken by ScreenDaily, who say the story surrounds "a plot to strike the city during the funeral of the British Prime Minister. Only the President Of The United States, his secret service head and an English MI6 agent can save the day.”

Despite IGN giving Olympus a 7.5 out of 10 – desperately wanting an action film so much so they dreamed a good one up – most of the critics agreed it was a pretty rotten film, culminating in a 48% rating from 178 reviews.

The Lone Ranger: When Was The Last Time Johnny Depp Got So Little Attention?

You'd be forgiven for assuming Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger was still weeks away from its cinematic release, with animations Despicable Me 2 and Monster's University dominating the movie talk ahead of the weekend's box-office. Hell, people are still talking about World War Z and The Heat more than Johnny Depp's new movie.

The Hollywood actor plays the Native American spirit warrior Tonto in Verbinski's re-telling of the classic story, with The Social Network's Armie Hammer the underwhelming choice as John Reid, aka, the Ranger. It's difficult to figure out why Disney's big-budget new movie has flown under the radar, though a flurry of tragic reviews and grumblings over the representation of Native Americans has severely dented public anticipation.

Lego - Teaser Trailer

Emmet is just a regular little Lego guy with an average and uneventful life. However, that's all about to change when wizened mystic Vitruvius mistakes him for the amazing Master Builder and enlists him on a mission to save the plastic building block world from being glued together by an evil adversary. He has no choice but to accompany Vitruvius, Batman and an attractive by feisty female mini-figure as they track their nemesis down before havoc can be wreaked upon the world, despite being dangerously unprepared and certainly unskilled in anything surrounding life and death matters. Based on the popular toy that has absorbed both children and adults for 64 years, 'Lego' is hilarious animated movie directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller ('21 Jump Street', 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs'), and Chris McKay ('Robot Chicken'). With a star-studded ensemble cast playing a variety of well-known Lego mini-figures, the film is definitely set to be a hit all round when it comes to screen on February 14th 2014.

Seth Rogen Reveals: 'This Is The End' Does Not Use Original Ending

Seth Rogen James Franco Emma Watson Michael Cera Channing Tatum Paul Rudd Rihanna Evan Goldberg Morgan Freeman Backstreet Boys

Seth Rogen's comedy This Is The End did not use its intended ending. The script was changed in order to accommodate a cameo from 90's pop stars Backstreet Boys leading a sing-along dance to 'Everybody', their 1997 single.

Director and co-writer Evan Goldberg said the idea had come from an off-the-cuff suggestion from his wife on how to make the ending more interesting. Seth Rogen, who stars in the comedy, was determined to make the idea a reality.

The Backstreet Boys cameo was not exactly what the writers had planned as the original ending was meant to feature Morgan Freeman, reviving his role as God as in Bruce Almighty. Unfortunately the actor had no interest in participating in the project. Rogen was then adamant the Backstreet Boys should play a part especially, as he said in an interview with The Vulture, he is "the appropriate age" to remember when "Backstreet Boys were kings".

The Backstreet Boys are not the only celebrities to feature in this 'apocalyptic' comedy. In fact the whole film is one cameo appearance after the other. None of the actors are playing characters, merely portraying the public's perception of them.

So Yeah, There's A LEGO Movie. And Here's The Trailer.

Chris Pratt Will Ferrell Elizabeth Banks Liam Neeson Will Arnett Morgan Freeman Nick Offerman

Warner Brothers have released the first trailer for The LEGO Movie, set to hit theaters on February 7, 2014. The original 3D computer animated story follows the story of Emmet, a clean-cut LEGO mini-figure who is mistakenly identified as being the key to saving the world. Emmet (voiced by Chris Pratt) is drafted into a fellowship of strangers to stop an evil tyrant President Business (Will Ferrell) and his henchman Bad Cop (Liam Neeson) from achieving world domination. Does this have anti-capitalist undertones!?

Of course, Emmet is hilariously underprepared for such an adventure and calls upon his fellow travellers Vitruvius (Morgan Freeman), an old mystic (Elizabeth Banks) Batman (Will Arnett), and a swaggering pirate (Nick Offerman) for help.

It all looks pretty good fun and kids and families should have a whale of a time with this one. Warner executives are probably seeing dollars signs, and plenty of them.

'Now You See Me' Receives Mixed Reviews From Critics On US Release

Jesse Eisenberg Mark Ruffalo Woody Harrelson Isla Fisher Dave Franco Melanie Laurent Morgan Freeman Michael Caine Louis Leterrier

Magical mystery thriller Now You See Me receives a flood of favourable and not so favourable reviews as it is released in US movie theatres today (May 31st 2013).

With a star-studded ensemble cast led by Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Mélanie Laurent, Morgan Freemanand Michael Caine, it's no wonder 'Now You See Me' has turned out to be a massive hit with many critics. Living up to its expectations, this Louis Leterrier directed movie has been described as 'A grandiose, far-fetched, somewhat tongue-in-cheek caper thriller' by Vulture and Television Without Pity said 'the tricks were really fantastic' and 'overall, it was an enjoyable time'.

On the other hand, many were unimpressed, with Complex stating rather bluntly, 'the illusion of its awesomeness vanishes to reveal its greatest trick yet: stealing your money' and CTV's Canada AM suggesting that one should 'wrap it in cellophane, lock it in a box and hide it under the bed'. Either way, if you like glamour, mystery and mischief then it's a great film to go and see and with such an excellent cast, just how bad can it possibly be?

Just Resting Me Eyes! Morgan Freeman Drifts Off In Live Interview

Morgan Freeman Michael Caine

Morgan Freeman struggled to stay awake during a live television interview with Michael Caine on a Fox breakfast show while they were quizzed about their new movie 'Now You See Me'.

The poor Oscar-winning movie veteran, who's currently approaching his 76th birthday, fought to stay conscious as he rested his eyes while his co-star talked about the new magic flick. He is seen blinking a few times as his head begins to nod before snapping his eyes open again and attempting to focus. However, after a clip from the movie is played while Caine talks about the illusions, Freeman's chin is resting on his chest in what looks like a deepening slumber. Determined as he is, though, he manages to shake himself awake before the snoring began.

Neither Caine nor the FOX affiliate Q13 presenters seemed to notice at the time though, or, if they did, decided to ignore the slightly awkward situation anyway. Freeman later told People.com, 'I wasn't actually sleeping. I'm a beta tester for Google Eyelids. I was merely updating my Facebook page', while Fox noted on its website, 'Maybe he was up too late partying.' Still, at least it wasn't a solo interview; that might not have been as easy to brush off.

Olympus Has Fallen Review

Good

As this massive blockbuster thriller progresses, it's impossible not to become amused by how ridiculous its script becomes. Because the production values are first-rate, with mammoth set pieces, rampant destruction and elaborate stunt action. Meanwhile, the plot and dialog are comically inane, to the point where knowing audience members start giggling helplessly. And frankly, these viewers will enjoy the film a lot more than anyone who tries to take it seriously.

The film opens with a harrowing scene in which Secret Service agent Mike (Butler) saves the President (Echkart) from an accident in which the First Lady (Judd) dies. So he's transferred to office duty, and now only keeps an eye on the White House from across the road. But this is how he spots a fringe group of radical Koreans launch an assault. Led by nutcase Kang (Yune) they storm the Oval Office and take the President, Defense Secretary (Leo) and others hostage. As Mike tries to break them free, he stays in touch with the temporary command centre at the Pentagon, where top dogs (including Freeman, Forster and Bassett) attempt to keep the menace from spreading.

But of course, these officials are useless, and it'll be up to Mike to save the day on his own, Die Hard-style. Improbably, all of his old access codes and passwords still work, so he's able to sneak around the White House and take out the villains one by one. Butler turns out to be rather good in this kind of meathead role, combining Bruce Willis' wit with Sylvester Stallone's brawn. By contrast, everyone else pretty much just sits around saying ridiculous things like, "Oh my God, we're doomed!" At least Leo gets to show some backbone.

Being able to pull off some of the most baffling illusions ever seen, they decide to use their talent to outwit the highest authorities of the country and give something back to their loyal audience. They announce, at one show, that they will rob a bank in Paris and subsequently shower their fans with cash while using their ability to expose the white collar crimes that have been going on in the underground financial world. While the FBI flounder around trying to work out how the trick is done, magic genius Thaddeus Bradley remains the only person who seems to have an idea on how it was worked though he is equally as reluctant as the perpetrators to reveal the secrets.

Oblivion Review

Very Good

With elements lifted from virtually every sci-fi classic in film history, this post-apocalyptic adventure feels eerily familiar but features just enough plot twists and emotional resonance to make it enjoyable. Director Kozinski (Tron Legacy) also makes sure it looks amazing, with cool-looking sets and gadgets and an entertaining use of destroyed New York and Washington landmarks.

It also gives Cruise a slightly more internalised character than he usually plays in big blockbusters. He's Jack, a repairman 60 years after aliens blasted the moon to bits, causing earthquakes and tidal waves. Now it's 2077 and the remnant of humanity is being evacuated to Saturn's moon Titan, while mop-up teams help protect giant resource-gathering machines from alien scavengers. Jack works Sector 49 with his partner Victoria (Riseborough), but has vivid, impossible dreams of a life on pre-war Earth with a mysterious woman (Kurylenko). When she suddenly turns up in an ancient spacepod, and Jack discovers a scrappy group of human survivors led by Beech (Freeman), he begins to wonder what's really happening here.

And so do we, since we have begun doubting the entire set-up from Jack's opening narration. Mission commander Sally (Leo) looks very shifty indeed, and there's something vaguely fishy about all of the sleek glass, steel and plastic technology. As Jack's gleaming white leather outfit becomes increasingly murky, so does his simplistic view of his own life. And Cruise holds the film together nicely with an introspective turn as a man who's just enigmatic enough to engage our interest. Riseborough and Kurylenko, meanwhile, get much juicier roles, providing strongly emotional layers to the story. And Freeman and Leo add a bit of class.

Some stars seem to have crept up the age ladder pretty sneakily, the odd wrinkle and grey hair barely registering on our radar, while others don't seem to have aged at all! English football player David Beckham was in his twenties when he rose to global popularity and, looking at his recent H&M underwear advert, it seems that his iconic hairstyles and tattoos are our only way of working out the old from the newer pictures of him. However, he is only 37 and has plenty of time to catch up yet. It's the over-50s that have really had our mouths agape in recent times as we've been scouring the net for the most youthful looking middle to old aged stars.

Morgan Freeman Newtown Shooting Comments A Hoax

Morgan Freeman

In the hours after the tragic shootings at a school in Newtown, USA which saw 26 adults and children killed, a message attributed to the respected actor Morgan Freeman started doing the rounds on Facebook, the veteran attacking the way that the media had reported the incident, suggesting that they were making a star of the killer as opposed to remembering the names of the dead, and going on to add that others may see their pedestal and attempt to emulate it.

However, Freeman’s statement has been revealed to be a hoax, by his publicist, who informed The Wrap that the actor hasn’t passed any public comment on the atrocities of Friday, December 14. Freeman’s supposed message read: ‘It’s because of the way the media reports it… Turn on the news and see how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single 'victim' of Columbine? Disturbed people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basement see the news and want to top it by doing something worse and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he’ll be remembered as a horrible monster instead of a sad nobody.”

There were never any links to a source for the quote, and now The Inquistr is suggesting that a user ‘Mark’ from Vancouver was the original poster, having written a similar long post on his own account, before quipping underneath "If I know the Internet, someone will attribute the quote to Morgan Freeman or Betty White and it'll go viral." What it does show is the relatively unregulated nature of social networking, and the huge impact an online game of Chinese whispers can have – something not helpful, particularly when surrounding an incident so raw.

Reported Morgan Freeman 'Statement' Is A Hoax

Morgan Freeman

In the wake of a tragedy, people look to authority figures for guidance.

The same happened with the Sandy Hook massacre recently. Earlier today, a statement, attributed to Morgan Freeman was being spread around various social media outlets, mainly Facebook. The text of the statement blamed the media and the sensationalist approach to tragedy for instances of wanton violence. While it sounds interesting and perhaps offers a new perspective on the events, the entire text, copied and pasted numerous times in Twitter and Facebook statuses, is a hoax. The quote does not belong to Morgan Freeman and the actor never actually issued a statement on the events.

The entire thing originated when the status started circulating with the quote being attributed to an anonymous source. Reddit users traced the text back to a long post by “Mark” of Facebook, on which the user had commented “If I know the internet, someone will attribute the quote to Morgan Freeman or Betty White and it'll go viral.” Apparently he was right and the text was making the rounds soon enough, as per the running joke on the internet that everything sounds intelligent if you hear it in a Morgan Freeman voice. While the hoax has been debunked, the status is still making the rounds.

'Empire Strikes Back' Scribe Signs On To Write New Star Wars Movies

Lawrence Kasdan Simon Kinberg Steven Spielberg Morgan Freeman Matthew Vaughn

Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg have closed deals to write instalments of the new Star Wars trilogy, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The pair will pen either Episode VIII or Episode IX though the exact division of their responsibilities is yet to be determined.

As was previously reported, Oscar winner Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3) is writing the script for Episode VII, the first movie in the new trilogy. Kasdan is a Lucasfilm and Star Wars veteran having co-wrote 1980's The Empire Strikes Back and the 1983 movie Return of the Jedi. He recently co-wrote the screenplay for Raiders of the Lost Ark, considered the finest movie from Steven Spielberg's Indiana Jones movies. However, his latest feature film writing credit is the poorly received Stephen King adaptation Dreamcatcher, starring Morgan Freeman. Kinberg on the other hand has more contemporary material on his CV, co-writing the new X-Men movie Days of the Future Past and producing X-Men: First Class. He is also on the team for the forthcoming Cinderella film for Disney.

With the writers now locked down for the new movies, we should hear something about directors pretty soon. Matthew Vaughn is rumored to be in talks for the first movie in the new triology.

The Dark Knight Rises Review

Extraordinary
When the credits roll at the end of this overlong action epic, it feels like we've just turned the final page of an immersive novel. It takes about an hour to find its stride, but Nolan's final Batman movie is also thunderously complex and entertaining.

It's eight years later, and Commissioner Gordon (Oldman) has allowed the press to create a myth that Batman was a villain. Badly injured, Bruce Wayne (Bale) has become a recluse, tended to by his butler Alfred (Caine). Then a new baddie arrives: Bane (Hardy) is part of the League of Shadows, trained by Bruce's old nemesis Ra's al Ghul (Neeson) to purge the world of human decadence. So Bruce turns to Wayne company boss Lucius (Freeman) to get back in fighting shape, deciding to trust a slippery cat burglar (Hathaway) and a rookie cop (Gordon-Levitt).

Now that Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy has ended, Bale has revealed that he can't wait to see who will do the next Batman film and how Batman will be portrayed next. 'I'll be fascinated to see which way they go, which choices that actor makes', he told Entertainment Weekly

Bruce Wayne returns to Gotham after eight years in The Dark Knight Rises, his alias Batman nursing a sore reputation after the last film, The Dark Knight, where he assumed responsibility for the attorney Harvey Dent's crimes in order to protect Dent's name after he loses his life during The Joker's assault on the city. This time he intends to defend Gotham City from a new villain: the virtually indestructible Bane who, as discovered by Commissioner Gordon, is plotting the obliteration of the entire city from the inside.

Dolphin Tale Review

Good
Relentlessly heartwarming, this film can't help but move us to tears. Honestly, it stars a disabled dolphin, an injured war veteran, a couple of cute kids and Morgan Freeman! It's also a great story, nicely told.

Shy 11-year-old Sawyer (Gamble) struggles to relate to other kids, and now his revered swim-champ cousin (Stowell) is heading off to war just as summer begins. One day Sawyer helps rescue Winter, a dolphin entangled in a crab trap, and gets involved in her rehabilitation with Dr Clay (Connick) and his daughter Hazel (Zuehlsdorff). Sawyer's mother (Judd) reluctantly lets him skip summer-school to work at the aquarium, which is under threat from mounting bills. And Sawyer convinces a prosthetic expert (Freeman) to help the now tailless Winter regain her ability to swim.

The Dark Knight Review

Excellent
Have you ever noticed how one measly letter separates "laughter" from "slaughter?"

I almost missed this off-the-cuff joke -- it's spray-painted on the side of a semi as the Joker (Heath Ledger) descends on a police convoy hustling doomed district attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) beneath the streets of Gotham. But it beautifully captures the balancing act director Christopher Nolan attempts in The Dark Knight, an anticipated blockbuster that seems capable at any point of plunging headlong into hilarity or insanity, moral stability or absolute chaos.

Wanted Review

Very Good
A scrawny, self-loathing office drone gets plucked from his humdrum existence by a steely, gun-wielding super babe, is mentored by a Zen warrior with limitless intelligence but limited patience, then endures harsh physical training to prepare for a deadly mission only he can complete.

What sounds an awful lot like The Matrix is actually Wanted, an adaptation of Mark Millar's 2004 comic book miniseries by style-conscious Russian filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov. His name may ring a bell with adventurous moviegoers who sampled his frenzied vampire thriller Night Watch and its muddled sequel, Day Watch. And though it's unlikely Bekmambetov will become a household name once Wanted explodes on the scene, a wider audience certainly will become more familiar with the director's uniquely kinetic aesthetics.

Gone Baby Gone Review

Excellent
Numerous articles have been written over the years criticizing Ben Affleck's poor choices pertaining to his acting career. Google Gigli if you care to sample some slams. But Affleck's Gone, Baby, Gone should temporarily reverse the negative flow of copy for it finds the first-time filmmaker making a number of intelligent decision from the director's hot seat.

His best decision comes early. By adapting novelist Dennis Lehane's Boston-based thriller, Affleck commits to material that fits him like a glove. Affleck adores his hometown -- warts and all -- and Gone becomes as much an ode to the city as Lehane intended.

Shawshank Redemption 'Most Inspiring Movie'

Morgan Freeman Billy Elliot Erin Brockovich Gladiator Star Wars Stephen King Tim Robbins Tom Hanks

Shawshank Redemption, the 1995 film starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins, has been named as the most inspirational movie by a poll of film fans.

The tear-jerking film, which was based on Stephen King's novel, sees two prisoners form a friendship against years of hardship.

Closely following in second place is Schindler's List, the true story of German businessman Oskar Schindler, who saved over 1,000 Jews from almost certain death during the second world war.

Tom Hanks' 1994 Forrest Gump was named as third, with people inspired by the tale of a simple man achieving greatness.

More than 2,000 film fans were surveyed by film and music store HMV.

Personal tales of success in the face of hardship appear to be the most inspiring themes for movie fans, with others in the top ten including Erin Brockovich and Billy Elliot.

Quite what Titanic inspired people to do after watching it may be questionable, but the film still managed to be named as the ninth most inspirational film.

Other classics which made it into the top 50 include Dead Poets' Society, Pretty Woman, Gladiator, To Kill A Mockingbird and Chariots of Fire.

HMV head of DVD Charles Fotheringham said Shawshank Redemption is a "great example" of how films have an "enduring capacity to inspire".

"Truly inspirational films can even change our view of the world and the things around us - helping us to see them from another person's perspective," he added.

''Ultimately, films can inspire us to change our lives in some way - think how many dancers must have started out in their chosen career after watching Billy Elliot.''

Top ten most inspirational films:

1. The Shawshank Redemption (1995)
2. Schindler's List (1994)
3. Forrest Gump (1994)
4. It's a Wonderful Life (1947)
5. Billy Elliot (2000)
6. Braveheart (1995)
7. The Green Mile (2000)
8. Erin Brockovich (2000)
9. Titanic (1998)

The Contract Review

OK
How'd a reasonably-big ($25 million) budget picture starring John Cusack and Morgan Freeman and directed by twice-Oscar-nominated Bruce Beresford go absolutely nowhere? I'd never even heard of The Contract until the DVD showed up at my house. I wager you're the same... and few will even see it on home video, either.

The story begins with decent promise as Freeman is revealed to be a stellar hitman, only his cover is finally blown and the many enemies he's made over the years come after him. He escapes an elaborate assassination and runs into the wilderness, only to be apprehended (because he's in handcuffs) by a camping father (John Cusack) and his son. While the trio attempts to get back to civilization to turn Freeman in, they're pursued by the bad guys and the good guys, and they still have to deal with harsh terrain surrounding them. Beresford's setup starts strong but soon peters out and gets repetitive as Cusack faces down one impossible situation after another, but never with much finesse. It's just running around on a mountain, often in the dark: The final showdown takes place completely and absurdly without lighting and pretty much seals the movie's doom.

Nurse Betty Review

Excellent
Neil LaBute, best known for his ultra-dark comedies In the Company of Men and Your Friends and Neighbors, breaks from his traditional mold and lightens up a tad with Nurse Betty, which -- again -- isn't going to win any awards for sensitivity.

For the first time, LaBute is not directing from his own script, which might explain why, if I didn't know better, I would have sworn I was watching a Coen brothers movie. Who else would put a fantasy dancing sequence on the edge of the Grand Canyon at night?

Deep Impact Review

Very Good
I admit it. I'm a sap for the touchy-feely business sometimes.

Deep Impact makes no apologies for being a sob-fest. I mean, how else do you smash a comet into the earth without killing off a few hundred million people, and breaking a few hearts in the process? As the first disaster-from-space film of the year, Deep Impact sets the bar at an interesting level. It's not an action film, although it has action elements. It's not a thriller, although suspense is in the mix. It's more a drama than anything else, the main story lines being a reporter (Téa Leoni) estranged from her father, a young astronomer (Wood) who finds he can't abandon his girlfriend, and a codgery astronaut (Robert Duvall) who gains acceptance among a younger crew.

The Big Bounce (2004) Review

Terrible
Near the end of The Big Bounce, Owen Wilson's character tells the woman who has just conned him, "I have to be sober to tell this story." In my opinion, only a drunk would be able explain (or BS) his way through this mess of a movie, a remake of an equally bad film of the same name from 1969. Both films are based on the novel from acclaimed author Elmore Leonard, and though Leonard may be able to pen a worth-reading novel, it's plain to see that transposing his words into a worth-viewing film is often an impossible task.

In this Bounce, Wilson plays vagabond Jack Ryan, a man who's bad luck and bad choices have landed him on the North Shore of Oahu where he takes a job in construction working for shady hotel developer Ray Ritchie (Gary Sinise) and his assistant Bob Jr. (Charlie Sheen). It's not long before Jack gets fired and finds new employment as a handyman at a complex of vacation bungalows owned by Judge Walter Crewes (Morgan Freeman). While working for Crewes, Jack becomes enamored with Nancy Hayes (Sara Foster, the poor man's Bridget Fonda), Ritchie's sexpot girlfriend and house-sitter while he escorts his wife (Bebe Neuwirth) on shopping trips in Honolulu. Nancy has a plan to milk Ritchie out of $200,000, and she needs Jack's help to pull it off.
