Review of My Dinosaur Life Album by Motion City Soundtrack

Formed in 1997, Motion City Soundtrack's forth album and major label debut sees them once again working with Blink 182's Mark Hoppus. To promote this release they'll be playing a handful of shows around the UK at the end of March, before returning to home shores for a large scale tour of North America.

A solemn start to 'Worker Bee' proves to be a false dawn as the opener bursts into power-pop life which is ridiculously infectious. Like many punk-rock bands of the last decade or so, there is little outstanding about the music, but in this case there is no doubting that the likes of 'Hysteria' and 'Pulp Fiction' are as good as the work of current genre champions Paramore.

'A Lifeless Ordinary (Need A Little Help)' is particularly anthemic, while 'Stand Too Close' provides a simple acoustic variation which is highly listenable. 'Disappear' moves in the opposite direction, featuring a heavier dynamic but without sacrificing a hook, whilst rarely has a song sounded so jolly but with such vitriolic content than the tellingly titled '@!#?@!' The record is perhaps a couple of tracks too long, but it's a minor criticism for one of the better punk-rock albums of the last few years.
