My Chemical Romance

Just over three years after they suddenly called it a day, rock favourites My Chemical Romance have teased a possible reunion with a cryptic return to social media this week, which contained a short video and a new-look logo.

A 30-second clip, featuring the piano intro from the group’s 2006 hit ‘Welcome to the Black Parade’, was set to the image of a single flag flapping in the wind. The clip ends with the date ‘9/23/16’ – which many overjoyed MCR fans initially took to be the release date for a potential new album.

Rock Band Splits: My Chemical Romance Call It A Day, "But It Can Never Die"

My Chemical Romance

Its been days since the announcement but it seems as though many are still adjusting to the news that My Chemical Romance, the rock band split, bringing an end to the twelve years of the New Jersey's band's own brand of pop rock. The multi-platinum selling band, consisting of Gerard Way, Ray Toro, Mikey Way and Frank Iero, unveiled the news in a statement posted on their official website last Friday (March 22) and since then, in an attempt to clear up the split it seems, lead singer Gerard Way has since taken to Twitter to post an obscenely long update to his profile.

The colosal Tweet, available in full on Twitlong, wrote a 1,979 word long farewell note that began with a brief account of his morning, which saw him finally realise that his band are over. The singer and comic book writer then went on (way too long if you ask us) about finding and freeing a bird trapped in a his library - a metaphor of himself in MCR maybe? - before finally addressing the band's decision to call things a day.

My Chemical Romance Have Split, But Gerard Way Reminds Fans "My Chemical Romance Is Done. But It Can Never Die"

My Chemical Romance

Over the weekend the musical world got a little less emo as rockers My Chemical Romance announced that they were calling it quits in a statement posted on their official website last Friday (March 22), signalling the end of twelve years together for the New Jersey rockers. In an attempt to maybe clear some things up, lead singer Gerard Way posted an absurdly long update to his Twitter feed last night in which he thanked the fans, said farewell, and went on way too long about a bunch of other stuff too.

Coming in at a whopping 1,979 words altogether, Way began the farewell note by going through his morning, which saw him being awoken by the sun shining through his window, only for him to realise that his band are over - "My Chemical Romance had ended." He then went on way too long about finding and freeing a bird trapped in a his library before finally trying to clear up the reasons why MCR split in the first place. Way explained that, owing much to a New Jersey concert the band played last year, he was beginning to sink back into a drug and drink fuelled nightmare that he escaped in 2004, adding that the group had always harboured secret plans of 'self-destruction' should things get too much in the band. Gerard finished things up with a round of thank you's aimed at the rest of the band, their regular crew and collaborators and the fans too.

My Chemical Romance Kicked Off The Weekend With A Breakup Announcement

My Chemical Romance

After over a decade on stage, My Chemical Romance have called it quits.

The band made the announcement on their official website, where they initially wrote: "Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We've gotten to go places we never knew we could. We've been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We've shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure." MCR certainly had an impressive run, which included four studio albums – two of which went platinum, constant reinvention in terms of sound and style and even a song featured on Glee – the infamous pop anthem Sing. MCR came out with what turned out to be their final album – Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys – in 2010, while their final performance as a band (unless they decide to do a reunion gig, of course) was at Bamboozle in 2012.
