Natalie Portman has welcomed her second child, a baby girl named Amalia.

Due to her pregnancy the actress was forced to miss the year’s Academy Awards, last weekend, where she was nominated for the best actress Oscar.

But in a statement to People, Portman revealed the happy news that she’d given birth just days before the ceremony.

A rep for the actress told the magazine: “Natalie Portman and her husband Benjamin Millepied welcomed a baby girl, Amalia Millepied, on Feb. 22. Mother and baby are happy and healthy.”

Portman and Millepied met on the set of 2010 thriller Black Swan, on which the French dancer worked as the choreographer. Portman would go on to win the best actress Oscar for her role in the film as ballet dancer Nina Sayers.

While accepting her Oscar Portman was pregnant with her first child, a son named Aleph, who she welcomed in June 2011. Portman and Millepied married in August 2012 in an intimate ceremony in Big Sur, California.

Portman debuted her baby bump at the Venice Film Festival in September, while promoting her movies Planetarium and Jackie.

For her role as former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Portman was nominated for a Golden Globe, an Academy Award and a Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Despite her growing bump, Portman had continued to appear at awards ceremonies right up until the Academy Awards last weekend.
