It has been just over a year since British boy band The Wanted decided to take a lengthy break, but as fans worry over if the five-piece will ever reunite, the band's youngest member Nathan Sykes reveals the split won't last forever.

Sykes says The Wanted's split won't last forever

"We didn't break up. We're taking a break as a band," the 21-year-old singer told People magazine. "We all just felt it was time to do our own things and then look in the future - with the amazing fan base that we had - to have something to come back to."

However, this doesn't mean that they are getting back together anytime soon. "I think it just plans on what everyone is doing at the time," he continued.

In the meantime Sykes is attempting to become a solo artist and he is currently in the midst of recording a debut album, with a new single set for release this spring.

"The music is definitely a big departure from what people are used to with The Wanted," he said. "It's quite soulful pop."

But just because he is venturing out on his own doesn't mean Sykes will forget what being in The Wanted taught him.

"I have learned so much over those five years. I think I really matured as an artist, as a songwriter and as a performer," he explained. "I've got a really fortunate situation having quite a good knowledge of the industry already."

Sykes also revealed that his debut album will feature very emotional songs about his own personal experiences, like his split from Ariana Grande.

"I try to draw from personal experiences. I'm not a very good talker, and I can be quite shy at times," he said. "I always have quite a lot to say, but can never really find a way to say it but try to put it into lyrics. Probably the best way to get to know me as a person is by listening to the songs."
