The album marks his first release through Capitol Records after more than thirty years releasing on Columbia. Since his first release in 1966, Diamond has remained a staple on both the UK and US music scene, with his last album (aside from covers record 'Dreams' and festival collection 'A Cherry Cherry Christmas') 'Home Before Dark' reaching Platinum status and landing the number one chart spot in both countries. It only bodes well for 'Melody Road'.

On the record, Diamond has enlisted the skills of producer Don Was (John Mayer, Van Morrison, The Rolling Stones, Elton John) who had a lot of praise for Diamond. 'Making this record with him has served as a profound reminder of what a powerful and amazing artist he truly is', he insisted, having described his 'tremendous vision, focus and determination' as well as 'God-given talent, charisma and soul' as being the foundations for producing such seminal music. Irish producer Jacknife Lee (U2, Snow Patrol, Bloc Party, Taylor Swift) also joined the production team, which suggests that we can expect an exciting mix of classic vibes and modern appeal on 'Melody Road'.
