Neil Young Is Alright With Donald Trump Using His Music, But He Still Backs Bernie Sanders

Neil Young Donald Trump

Neil Young has said he’s now alright with Donald Trump using his music and he harbours no resentment against the Republican presidential candidate. Last year Trump announced his candidacy by using Young’s ‘Rockin' in the Free World’ at a rally, causing the singer to accuse him of not having the proper permissions to use the track.

Neil YoungNeil Young is now okay with Donald Trump using his music.

But in a new interview with Reuters Young a Bernie Sanders supporter, said: “The fact that I said I was for Bernie Sanders and then he didn't ask me to use 'Rockin' in the Free World' doesn't mean that he can't use it.”

Neil Young was only looking for $800,000 to launch his new Pono Player, but his Kickstarter goal was obliterated in less than 24 hours this week, pulling in $6.2 million. Young's music player - which promises higher-quality sound than any of its competitors - is now the third biggest Kickstarter campaign in history.

"You have helped to set the stage for a revolution in music listening," Young wrote on the campaign's homepage on Tuesday, "Finally, quality enters the listening space so that we can all hear and feel what the artists created, the way they heard and felt it."

Jack White The Dead Weather Neil Young White Stripes

Jack White has released the first track from his upcoming second solo album, Lazaretto, which will be released this June. The instrumental new song, titled 'High Ball Stepper,' is undeniably Jack White in its screeching guitar riff and rock groove and forecasts more exciting sounds for the record's summer release.

White hasn't specified whether Lazaretto will be purely an instrumental album. Instead, he told Rolling Stone last year that "[The new album's] not one sound, it's definitely several. I don't pick my style and then write a song. I just write whatever comes out of me."

Can Neil Young's Pono Player Really Rival The IPod?

Neil Young

Yesterday Neil Young launched his Pono player on crowd funding platform, Kickstarter, and well it didn't take long before the musician managed to surpass his monetary goal. Less than 10 hours after unveiling his ‘Pono player’, Young's campaign raised the $800,000 they needed , that’s some pretty fast work. But can the player really rival the mighty iPod or is Young just cashing in on his musical credibility to make a few extra bucks?

Neil YoungNeil Young, he's got a new toy that could replace the Ipod

The ‘Pono player’ campaign video looks pretty impressive. Alongside Young himself there’s many other famous faces gushing about how great the sound quality is, especially in their cars. Bruce Springsteen, Jack White, Dave Grohl and the Arcade Fire, are just some of the names enlisted by Young to talk about his new venture. But, hey, if Neil Young asks you to do something you pretty much have to.

On The Shelves: UK Album Release Round-Up, October 29, 2012: Neil Young, Madness, Kylie Minogue, Calvin Harris, Skyfall OST

Psychedelic Pill is the 35th studio album from Neil Young and was written and recorded in collaboration with his sometime band, Crazy Horse, marking their first album of original material since Greendale in 2003. As with many of Young’s latter-day releases, the quality is less than consistent. Reviews from The Guardian and the Independent suggest that Psychedelic Pill contains “moments of majesty,” (The Independent) as well as some less impressive tracks. It’s unlikely that any of this week’s releases are going to shake Taylor Swift from her throne at the top of the UK album chart but with reassuring reviews in the mainstream press, Psychedelic Pill should prove popular amongst Young’s considerable fanbase.

Also released today is the interestingly-titled Oui Oui Si Si Ja Ja Da Da, by veteran ska-pop band Madness. It’s the tenth studio album from Madness and contains 14 new tracks, as well as cover art from the ever popular pop-art legend Peter Blake (he designed the cover for The BeatlesSgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band). The Guardian gave the album an impressive 3 stars out of 5 but can Madness really recapture the youthful exuberance of their glory days, with this latest album? It seems unlikely that they’ll continue to enjoy the success that they experienced in years gone by.

Neil Young And Foo Fighters Lead Central Park Poverty Awareness Concert

Neil Young Foo Fighters Black Keys John Legend Band Of Horses Dave Grohl John Lennon

Neil Young and Foo Fighters were among the star attractions at Saturday night’s Global Citizen Festival in Central Park. The concert was held in order to raise awareness about issues surrounding poverty and according to the Washington Post, organisers “used an innovative approach to ticket distribution so that many concert-goers were forced to learn about an array of global problems in order to get a ticket.”

Anyone wanting to attend the concert, which also featured performances from the Black Keys, John Legend and Band Of Horses, had to register for tickets at globalcitizen.org. They earned ‘points’ towards a ticket for every poverty-related video they watched, of piece of information that they read. Around 71,000 people signed up for tickets and 60,000 of those crowded into Central Park for the unique event. The bands played for a round an hour each and were interspersed with guest speakers talking about global poverty issues.

Neil Young was joined, for his set, by Dave Grohl and members of the Black Keys, for a rendition of his classic track ‘Rockin’ In The Free World.’ When Foo Fighters played their own set, Grohl told the audience “Feels good to be here.” John Legend made a “surprise appearance,” playing John Lennon’s ‘Imagine,’ just a short way from where Lennon used to live. The concert had been deliberately scheduled to coincide with the meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in New York this month, to increase public consciousness of the presence of poverty.

The Last Waltz Review

Extraordinary
The Band were one of the best rock groups of the '60s and '70s, creating a unique brand of music that incorporated elements of folk, blues, and soul -- ironically, at the time when those elements were being squeezed out of rock by groups such as Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.

Unfortunately, the Band's music didn't have much influence on the way future music would develop. But The Last Waltz, a concert film of the Band's 1976 farewell performance, remains an essential artwork. The film is a reminder that while they lasted, the Band (guitarist Robbie Robertson, drummer Levon Helm, keyboardists Garth Hudson and Richard Manuel, and bassist Rick Danko) was as good as any group in rock history.
