Neill Blomkamp's next project will be an Aliens movie set after the events of the upcoming Prometheus 2. Sources say Ridley Scott's Scott Free will produce the picture, though there's still plenty of work to be done before both Prometheus and Blomkamp's new picture make it to the big screen.

"Um... So I think it's officially my next film. #alien" he said, attaching a drawing of.err, an alien.

"Basically, what happened was, when Chappie got heavily into post-production, I could take my foot off the gas a bit. I was thinking about what I wanted to do next and I've been wanting to make an Alien film for like years and years," he told Uproxx last month.

"Speaking to Sigourney Weaver, when we were doing Chappie, she set off a bunch of thoughts in my head - I had come up with an idea that didn't have Sigourney, it was a different idea. But I spent all of the shooting time with her, it was like, holy sh*t, that could actually be really interesting."

Prometheus was loosely based on the Alien franchise and took $400 million worldwide, despite middling reviews.

Blomkamp's latest movie, Chappie, hits theaters on March 6, 2015. The movie is set in the near future where crime is patrolled by an oppressive mechanized police force.
