It's official: 'Girlboss' won't be returning for a second season at Netflix. The streaming platform have decided that they won't be moving forward with future episodes of the original comedy, with the axe falling on the show after taking out both 'Sense8' and 'The Get Down'.

'Girlboss' followed the story of Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso, with embellishments of course made for dramatic effect. With 13 episodes to its name, it showed the young anarchist turn herself into a business woman by creating her own online clothing business.

The Wachowski sisters' sci-fi Netflix series 'Sense8' has reached the end of the road after just two seasons, as the heads of the streaming service reveal that they have axed the show from their roster. It's not the first Netflix series to get the chop this early on and it won't be the last.

It may be an important development for diversity in television, having won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Drama Series last year, but the ratings regrettably just weren't high enough for 'Sense8' to continue on Netflix for another season.

Will Smith has used his position on the jury of this year’s Cannes Film Festival to launch a passionate defence of streaming giant Netflix, in disagreement with the jury’s president, director Pedro Almodovar.

Smith was part of a four-strong jury that gave a press conference at the annual film festival in the south of France on Wednesday afternoon (May 17th), alongside president Almodovar, another director in the shape of Paolo Sorrentino and Hollywood A-lister Jessica Chastain.

The topic of discussion soon got onto the Netflix revolution, which is disrupting the conventional film industry because it distributes films often without giving them a theatrical release at all. Two of the films touted for the Palme d’Or this year didn’t get a French cinematic release until very recently (Okja and The Meyerowitz Stories), and it has made French distributors upset.

Whatever the case may be, '13 Reasons Why' is a series that splits everybody right down the middle.

As reported by Contactmusic yesterday, a hacker was holding Netflix to ransom and threatening to leak new episodes of 'Orange Is The New Black', ahead of the series' fifth season premiere in early June.

'13 Reasons Why' writer Nic Sheff has defended the Netflix series in an open letter.

The creative mastermind has spoken out about the show starring Dylan Minnette and Katherine Langford after it has been slated by people advising people with suicidal thoughts or a history of assault to avoid watching the programme, which saw him reveal the plot line was true to his personal experience.

Speaking about the programme, which Selena Gomez executive produced, in a note to Vanity Fair, Sheff said: ''When it came time to discuss the portrayal of the protagonist's suicide in '13 Reasons Why', I of course immediately flashed on my own experience. It seemed to me the perfect opportunity to show what an actual suicide really looks like - to dispel the myth of the quiet drifting off, and to make viewers face the reality of what happens when you jump from a burning building into something much, much worse.''

Adam Sandler has been one of the favoured punching bags of movie critics for countless years now, but that hasn’t been reflected in commercial terms, with Netflix revealing that subscribers have spent approximately half a BILLION hours watching his movies.

The online streaming giant, which has around 99 million paying customers for its services, revealed its first-quarter earnings for 2017 on Monday (April 17th), and it showed that their decision to collaborate with Sandler for original content movies is paying off.

Netflix has decided to cancel its own series ‘Marco Polo’ after only two seasons, it has been reported.

The American streaming giant has opted to axe the scripted drama, bestowing ‘Marco Polo’ with the unfortunate tag of being the first Netflix original scripted series to not be renewed for a third season, according to The Hollywood Reporter on Monday (December 12th).

Made in tandem with The Weinstein Co. and starring Lorenzo Richelmy as the 13th century Venetian merchant who travels to China, with Benedict Wong as Kublai Khan, ‘Marco Polo’ was unveiled in the winter of 2014 to largely negative reviews.

Streaming service Netflix is reportedly in negotiations to revive beloved series ‘Gilmour Girls’, reuniting creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and original stars, Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel. Graham and Bledel played mother-daughter duo Lorelai and Rory Gilmore on the popular WB drama, from 2000-2007.

Netflix has produced evidence that ‘Breaking Bad’ is the most addictive TV series on its roster, determining that it takes viewers just two episodes in order to become hooked.

The streaming giant has analysed data from 16 countries to gain some insight into the modern phenomenon of binge-watching TV boxsets – let’s face it, we’ve all done it, even if we’re not proud of it – and has tried to discover the exact point at which a viewer becomes 70% likely to finish the entire first season of several hit shows.

AMC’s ‘Breaking Bad’, hailed by some as the greatest TV series ever, takes only two episodes for the average viewer to become addicted – compared to four episodes for its spin-off series ‘Better Call Saul’. A number of other shows, such as ‘Scandal’, ‘The Killing’ and ‘Bates Motel’ also took just two episodes, it must be noted, but these are (we’re guessing) likely to have smaller viewerships.

Netflix have teamed up with cinema chain Curzon to release its first original film, Beasts of No Nation in UK theatres a week before it becomes available worldwide on the streaming service. The film will also be shown on October 8th at London film festival, as part of the competition.

Netflix is rumoured to have obtained the rights of Black Mirror, the dystopian drama television series created by writer Charlie Brooker. Negotiations have been ongoing since May but a deal is thought to have been reached between Netflix, Brooker and his production company, House of Tomorrow. The streaming wars have drawn some more blood – within hours of Netflix revealing that they’ll be losing a large number of big blockbuster movies from their online library, rival platform Hulu announced that they would be picking them up instead.

Netflix announced yesterday (August 30th) that 76 big name titles and TV series, including The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Star Trek: Into Darkness, World War Z and Transformers: Age of Extinction, will be dropping out from their library over the course of September. This is as a result of the streaming service and its cable provider Epix ending their business relationship.

John Stamos pushed for the sacking of the Olsen twins from Full House, the 51-year-old actor admitted at a press conference on Thursday (6th August). Stamos’ attempt at having Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen fired came to light when the preview of The Unauthorized Full House Story was published online earlier this week. Angelina Jolie is teaming up with Netflix for her next stint as a director, which will be a dramatic adaptation of a real-life story about Cambodia’s genocidal Khmer Rouge regime, according to Variety.

Jolie, an outspoken advocate of global human rights issues and a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency, will be adapting ‘First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers’, a 2000 memoir by Loung Ung, a Cambodian writer, human rights activist and survivor of the 'killing fields' whom Jolie has known for more than a decade.

Netflix has moved into the world of original films and the fun starts this October! Yes the streaming service has just revealed the premiere dates for its first batch of original features, with Cary Fukunaga’s Beasts of No Nation leading the pack on October 16th.

Netflix is now in the orginal movie game.

Based on the novel by Nigerian author Uzodinma Iweala and adapted for the screen by Fukunaga, Beasts of No Nation stars Idris Elba as a warlord who mentors a child soldier. As well as becoming available worldwide on Netflix October 16th, the film will also open the same day in select U.S. theaters.

Netflix has taken a significant step in its evolution with the biggest movie purchase in its history, announcing that it has acquired distribution rights to Brad Pitt’s forthcoming military comedy movie War Machine, due for release in 2016.

The online streaming giant made the announcement on Monday afternoon (June 8th) that it has secured rights to distribute the movie, which stars Pitt in a fictionalised, satirical re-telling of the story of General Stanley McChrystal, the four-star US general who led American forces in Afghanistan between 2009 and 2010.

Jeremy Clarkson could be returning to screens alongside his former ‘Top Gear’ pals Richard Hammond and James May. The trio are reported to be in talks with Netflix to launch a new car-based show in the wake of Clarkson’s exile from the BBC.

According to the Daily Mirror, one name being considered for the revamped show is ‘House of Cars’, an explicit and cheeky reference to the success of Kevin Spacey’s original political drama ‘House of Cards’ which found a home on the streaming service. An insider told the British paper “If it goes ahead, they're planning to call it ‘House of Cars’, which is just genius.”

Netflix has expanded its prestige by announcing that it has struck deal securing exclusive rights for the premiere of the forthcoming Ricky Gervais comedy movie Special Correspondents. The streaming giant will unveil the film for its worldwide debut next year, according to Deadline.

Special Correspondents is an original comedy that co-stars Eric Bana. Its plot concerns a young, struggling New York radio journalist who pretends that he’s a war reporter on the front line of a foreign conflict, while in reality hiding in an apartment above a Spanish restaurant in Manhattan.

Showtime looks set to follow HBO into the world of online streaming, by soon offering customers a package similar to the newly announced HBO Now service. The news was announced by Leslie Moonves, the chief of Showtime's parent company CBS who told investors at a conference in Palm Beach, “the days of the 500 channel universe are over.”

The revival of The Interview, which so recently seemed to be doomed to the dustbin of movie history, continues unabated. Following the remarkable box office figures returned upon its limited release across the States, streaming service Netflix has tentatively expressed an interest in making the film available to its subscribers.

On Wednesday, Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos said in a press conference “People want to see the movie and we want to be able to deliver the movie.” However, he would not elaborate on the details of any efforts to secure the film. Sony Pictures had no comment on the possibility of such a deal either.

TV fans should already be familiar with Colter, who plays Agent Jameson Locke in 'Halo Nightfall' and frequently appears as Lemond Bishop in CBS’s ‘The Good Wife’.

Netflix probably didn't have any deserved winners of major Emmy awards on Monday night (August 25, 2014). 'House of Cards' - which is fast becoming pure, unadulterated fun more than anything else - was never going to beat 'Breaking Bad' in the outstanding drama category and although 'Modern Family' was the surprise winner of best comedy, 'Orange is the New Black' still had to beat the far superior 'Veep'. Calling all fans of kitsch and colourful '90s nostalgia as well as, um...children. Netflix has reportedly ordered a reboot of the hit kids sci-fi cartoon The Magic School Bus, called The Magic School Bus 360°.

It appears that the decision to remake the show for a whole new generation is a result of the original episode's popularity on the on-demand online streaming site. "'Magic School Bus,' the old version, is remarkably popular on Netflix," said Ted Sarandos, the company's chief content officer, who identified Magic School Bus as the streaming service's top educational show.

"It teaches science in a way that transcends generations," he said, via the NY Times.

Customers of streaming service Amazon Prime probably treated themselves to a little dance on Thursday, when it was announced that the company had signed a deal with HBO to stream the likes of The Sopranos, The Wire, Girls and Veep. It represents the first time that HBO programming has been licensed to an online-only subscription service.

The first batch of shows will be made available from May 21, with Deadwood, Rome, Six Feet Under, Band of Brothers, The Pacific and Parade's End among the other shows being made available There is no mention of Game of Thrones.

Orange Is the New Black is set to return for season two in June. The show's producer, Netflix, made the announcement yesterday (15th February) that the second season will be available from June 6th 2014, as the L.A. Times reports.

Netflix's chief content officer Ted Sarandos has hinted that the service's big-budget original drama House of Cards will run past its scheduled two seasons. Former House of Cards executive producer Rick Cleveland said last month that the Emmy-winning political drama would wrap up after its second season, though that no longer appears to be the case.

"Our intent is that the show keep going for sure," said Sarandos at Film Independent's 9th annual confab on Saturday, according to Deadline, "It was a 26-episode commitment. It was not our intent that it just run for two seasons.Talks are in progress right now."

It's hard to disagree with, following some hugely ambitious shows over the past few years, including Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Homeland and Spacey's very own House of Cards. 

"Our challenge now is to keep the flame of this revolutionary programming alive by continuing to seek out new talent, nurture it, encourage it, challenge it, give it home and the kind of autonomy that the past and present . has proved it deserves," he told the audience of TV executives, according to the Guardian.

Netflix have made yet another bold move – this time with movies – to try and secure monthly payments of £5.99 from content-happy consumers. They’ve put pen to paper with The Weinstein company, securing the rights to stream all of their movies from 2016.

This basically means two things: every film Weinstein releases will end up on Netflix once the movie has a physical release – i.e. DVD – and everything written about Netflix in the next few years will read like paid-for copy. They really are tying up the market.

"The deal that we've just completed with Netflix is probably the biggest deal in the history of the Weinstein Co.," co-Chairman Harvey Weinstein said in a statement. "Together, we are discussing ways to reinvent the pay-TV experience so that the audience can get even more for their money."

The show is exclusively available on the popular streaming service Netflix, which - with recent shows like Breaking Bad available, and a promising star to original programming, like the show Prepon is apparently leaving and House of Cards – has become the number one service for content.

Netflix stock rose yesterday by a record 24 per cent, which means the company is finally making money again, instead of losing it. Netflix execs attribute the development to the company’s 2 million new subscribers in the last quarter, as well as their recent strategy of focusing on original programming. It looks like the company is finally getting back on its feet after a stock plunge two years ago. Back then, Netflix pushed away customers with the decision to separate its streaming service from its DVD rental service and to raise prices overall. It finally seems like the new strategy is taking effect, as the company announced that it finally topped $1 billion in revenue.

Market ananysts are also giving the service their seal of approval. “Unlike last year, Netflix stock appears to be set for clear sailing now,” Susquehanna Financial Group analyst Vasily Karasyov said in a research note, quoted by The Boston Herald. “What we think is interesting is how the company’s original programming strategy is converging with that of a domestic premium network. … Netflix is racing to ramp up original hours of versatile programming in an effort to build a brand identity with different segments of the market.”

And really, if the company’s first original production, House of Cards starring Kevin Spacey, is anything to go by, that can only spell good things for Netflix users.
