Ever since the sexual harassment and assault allegations surrounding Kevin Spacey came to light, many have been wondering about the future of Netflix original series 'House of Cards'. The actor has to-date led the show through five seasons as the charming yet dangerous Frank Underwood, helping tell one of the streaming service's most popular stories, which takes place right in the middle of the White House.

Production on the sixth season of the show was halted following the allegations levelled at Spacey, with a portion of fans wondering if what was then called the final season in the series would even go ahead at all. Fortunately, it would seem Netflix and the staff working on the show have enough faith in the rest of the cast to see the show continue.

Speaking at the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference, Chief Content Officer at Netflix, Ted Sarandos confirmed: "I can actually give you some news in the room today, because we have been in arrangement to produce a sixth season of 'House of Cards'. It’ll be an eight episode season that’ll start production early ’18, and it will not involve Kevin Spacey."

He added: "It will star Robin Wright. And we’re really excited about bringing some closure to the show for fans."

Wright is somebody who's been very vocal of her criticisms of the show in the past, down to the pay she receives when compared against her former male counterpart. We imagine that, with the shuffling in the order of hierarchy now that Spacey won't be involved, she'll become one of the highest paid cast members on the show - something her fans have been asking for, for some time.

She's certainly got the talent to back up her demands, and we can't wait to see exactly where she and the screenwriters working on the series' final outing take the story, reaching its ultimate conclusion.

Looking to the future, there has been talk of a number of spinoffs being in the works at Netflix, but they're supposedly in their very early stages. We look forward to finding out more about how they progress in the months and years to come.
