Childhood: Jamie Foxx was born to Louise Dixon and Darrell Bishop in Terrell, Texas. Louise abandoned her son seven months after he was born and he was raised by Estelle and Mark Talley, Louise's adoptive parents. They raised the boy with a strict Catholic upbringing and he started to learn the piano at the age of five, eventually playing piano at their local church services.

Jamie Foxx attended Terrell High School, where he played basketball and football, as well as singing in a band called Leather and Lace.

After finishing at high school, Jamie Foxx was offered a scholarship to United States International University, to study classical music and composition. He changed his name when he started performing at stand-up comedy open mic nights, with the surname being a tribute to the comedian Redd Foxx.

His first dramatic film role did not come until 1999, when he appeared in Oliver Stone's Any Given Sunday, playing an American footballer who liked to party. The film also starred Al Pacino, Dennis Quaid, Cameron Diaz and James Woods.

In 2004, Jamie Foxx played the taxi driver in Michael Mann's critically-acclaimed Collateral, which also starred Tom Cruise and Jada Pinkett Smith. Foxx earned himself a nomination for Best Supporting Actor, for his performance.

In 2005, Jamie Foxx landed a role in Jarhead, a Gulf War film that also starred Jake Gyllenhaal, Peter Sarsgaard and Chris Cooper. He later re-joined Chris Cooper on screen in The Kingdom, along with Jennifer Garner and Ashraf Barhom. 2006 saw two major film releases starring Jamie Foxx: Dreamgirls (the story of 1960's doo-wop girl group, with similarities to The Supremes), starring Beyonce Knowles, Jennifer Hudson and Eddie Murphy and Miami Vice (a modernized film version of the 1980s TV cop series), which was directed by Michael Mann and also starred Colin Farrell and Gong Li.

In 2009, Jamie Foxx starred in The Soloist, alongside Robert Downey Jr The film is an adaptation of the true story of a musician who becomes homeless after developing schizophrenia.

Jamie Foxx's outstanding career was recognised by the Hollywood elite in September 2007, when he was awarded with a star on the Hollywood Walk of fame.

Music Career: Jamie Foxx's debut album, entitled Peep This, was released in 1994. He was later featured on Twista's song 'Slow Jamz', which also featured Kanye West. Foxx and West then collaborated again on Kanye West's track 'Gold Digger'. The track was a number one hit and Foxx went on to work with Ludacris and Field Mob on 'Georgia'.

The second studio album from Jamie Foxx was released in December 2005, entitled Unpredictable. The album has been certified double platinum and peaked at number nine in the UK albums chart. Foxx joined the ranks of Bing Crosby, Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra as one of the few people to have won an Academy Award, as well as having a number one album in the USA.

Jamie Foxx's third album, Intuition featured appearances from T-Pain, Lil Wayne, T.I. and Kanye West. The music video for 'Blame It' was notable for its many cameo appearances from the likes of Quincy Jones, Jake Gyllenhaal, Samuel L Jackson and Forest Whitaker.

It's impressive enough when ordinary civilians put themselves on the front line in a dangerous situation to rescue their friends, familiy and even people they don't know. But when celebrities do it, it completely changes the way people view them. And heroism among the elite is not as uncommon as you might think.

After having been widely reported to have been in a relationship for the best part of four years, Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx have at last gone public with their romance this week.

The couple, who are widely believed to have been dating secretly since 2013, were spotted together in public for the first time, walking on the beach in Malibu, California on Labor Day on Monday (September 4th). Baby Driver Review

Very Good

Wildly energetic and so cool it hurts, this action movie has been put together in the style of a colourful movie musical, but with the songs playing in the background. Everything is choreographed to the tunes, as the cars veer across the road dodging bullets fired in sync to the rhythm. It's pure candy for the eyes and ears, impeccably staged by writer-director Edgar Wright. And we don't mind much that there's not much more to it than that.

The title refers to Baby (Ansel Elgort), a young man who doesn't talk much. Hiding behind sunglasses and earbuds, he's an expert driver raised by his deaf foster dad (C.J. Jones) after his parents died in, yes, a car crash. He's also in debt to Doc (Kevin Spacey) a criminal mastermind who orchestrates elaborate heists with a variety of low-life goons, all with Baby at the wheel. And things are looking up for Baby when he falls for diner waitress Debora (Lily James) just as he pays off his debt to Doc. But first he has to do one last job, working this time with the loved-up Buddy and Darling (Jon Hamm and Eliza Gonzalez) and the unpredictable, trigger-happy Bats (Jamie Foxx).

Scenes play to the beat of the songs on Baby's iPod, and Wright adds clever touches everywhere. Shooting in long takes with elaborately planned-out mayhem, the film ricochets from one sequence to the next, looking seriously stylish every step of the way. It quickly becomes clear that even the super-efficient Baby is soon going to be in over his head, which helps us root for him as the carnage escalates. The likeable Elgort has a lot of fun with the role, enjoying Baby's wordless swagger while including a touch of emotion here and there. No one else gets a chance to add much depth to his or her role, but at least Foxx gets to steal his scenes simply because no one has a clue what he might do next.

When Jamie Foxx Mocked Mike Tyson's Lisp... In Front Of Him

Jamie Foxx Mike Tyson

It's no secret that Jamie Foxx has got some serious backbone, but did you know that he once mocked Mike Tyson's speech impediment in front of him in the early years of his stand-up comedy career? It must have been a damn funny joke seeing as he's demonstrably still alive.

Speaking on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon', Jamie Foxx opened up about his plans for a new stand-up show, returning to the Comedy Clubs he started out in more than 20 years since his work on the TV show 'In Living Color'. He reveals he has a lot of stories to tell, and this one recalls a show he did in a 'hood' club back in the day, when he ended up doing a Mike Tyson joke on the wrong night.

Sleepless Review

Weak

In remaking the 2011 French thriller Sleepless Night, the filmmakers have dumbed down both the title and the plot, leaving everything feeling rather over-familiar. Nothing remotely surprising happens, and there's absolutely no subtext beneath the relentless verbal and physical violence. But a first-rate cast makes it watchable, and the action sequences are shot with a gritty energy that's rarely seen in these kinds of mindless thrillers.

It's now set in Las Vegas, where Detective Vincent (Jamie Foxx) and his shifty partner Sean (Tip "T.I." Harris) have stolen a stash of drugs during a deal between psychotic criminal Novak (Scoot McNairy) and vicious casino boss Rubio (Dermot Mulroney). Also on their trail is the Internal Affairs investigator Bryant (Michelle Monaghan), who is looking into police corruption with her partner Dennison (David Harbour). And after Novak kidnaps Vincent's teen son (Octavius J. Johnson), he only has one long night to sort out the mess, catch the bad guys and clear his name.

The main problem here is that Vincent is a good guy from the start, an undercover straight-arrow who has absolutely no internal conflict. This doesn't give Foxx much to play with, aside from worrying about his son and juggling questions from his ex-wife (Gabrielle Union). He just charges through each scene as the only heroic figure on-screen, Die Hard style, while Mulroney and McNairy merrily chew their way through the scenery. Both are clearly unhinged, and the actors have a great time striking each macho pose. Monaghan gets a slightly more complex role, although Bryant is little more than an irritant in the film, doing all the wrong things for all the right reasons. At least she's a forceful woman in a sea of brutally violent tough guys.
