Ryan Murphy's 'American Crime Story' will be returning to the small screen in America with 'The Assassination of Gianni Versace' on January 17, 2018 it's been confirmed. The news came during the latest broadcast of 'American Horror Story: Cult' on FX in the US earlier this week, with the show debuting a whole year earlier than originally planned, swapping places with 'American Crime Story: Katrina'.

Following the titular story, the FX series will see Edgar Ramirez stepping into the role of the late fashion designer, with former 'Glee' star Darren Criss taking on the mantle of his killer, Andrew Cunanan. From what we understand, the show will bring together the events that led up to the slaughter of Versace on the steps of his home back in 1997, and we imagine we'll see everything that came about after the murder as well.

The new season has some lofty expectations surrounding it following the massive success that the first saw, 'People v. O.J. Simpson'. With such talent as Penelope Cruz and Ricky Martin also in the cast as Gianni's sister Donatella Versace and Gianni's partner Antonio D'Amico respectively, we think that all the right ingredients are in place for this to be just as successful as the series' first outing.

When it comes to 'Katrina', the show is still in development and will star Sarah Paulson, who has starred in both 'American Crime Story' and 'American Horror Story'. Season 4 hasn't yet been confirmed when it comes to a theme, but one idea that's said to be being heavily considered is the scandal of Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky when he was serving as President of the United States.
