Nicki Minaj is not happy with the MTV Video Music Award nominations. The 32-year-old singer took to Twitter to complain about two of her music videos not receiving enough recognition. Her collaboration with Beyoncé, ‘Feeling Myself’, was completely missed out from nominations and her ‘Anaconda’ video didn’t get a nomination in the Best Video or Choreography categories.

The nominations were announced on Tuesday (21st July) and Minaj was quick to call MTV up on their slight. Minaj initially thanked MTV for their nominations but then soon criticised them for not paying due attention to the two songs.

‘Hey guys @MTV thank you for my nominations. Did Feeling Myself miss the deadline or...?’ Minaj wrote on Twitter

Minaj suggested she was being ignored as she was a different “kind” of artist. Presumably she was alluding to how the majority of the female acts nominated are primarily pop artists, as opposed to Minaj’s hip-hop and rap sound.

‘If I was a different "kind" of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well,’ Minaj added in another tweet.

Minaj argued her ‘Anaconda’ video should have been nominated for Video of the Year as it had been culturally influential. She also complained about how one other female star’s video, nominated in the Video of the Year category, had been record breaking but Anaconda, which broke Vevo records mere days after its release, was ignored. It seems Minaj was referring to Taylor Swift whose record breaking ‘Bad Blood’ video is nominated for Video of the Year, amongst a host of others.

‘When the "other" girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination,’ Minaj continued.

However, Minaj shouldn’t be too sad. She did receive three nominations for her other work. She’s nominated, along with Jessie J and Ariana Grande, in the best collaboration category for their ‘Bang Bang’ video. Whilst ‘Anaconda’ was nominated for Best Female Video and Best Hip Hip Video.

The MTV VMAs will be broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles at 9p.m. ET on Sunday 30th August.
