Zayn Malik is getting the next step in his career under way with the news that he’s signed a solo recording deal with the major label RCA, announcing in the process that he intends to make “#realmusic’.

On Wednesday (July 29th), Billboard revealed that the 22 year old ex-One Directioner has also signed up with management company Turn First, who also look after Iggy Azalea, and will be working with R&B producer Malay, somebody who has worked with the likes of John Legend and Frank Ocean.

‘X-Factor’ judge Simon Cowell has hinted that it might soon be time for One Direction to go on a hiatus, following the news that band member Louis Tomlinson is about to become a father for the first time. Speaking to The Sun newspaper the boyband’s mentor said the group now had enough hits under their belt to allow for some time off.

More news to rock the worlds of One Direction fans emerged today as reports suggest that Louis Tomlinson is to become a father. The boyband member is said to be expecting a baby with Los Angeles-based stylist Briana Jungwirth.

The rumours have not been officially confirmed at the time of writing, but People magazine reported on Tuesday evening (July 14th) that a source close to both parties told them: “Louis is happy and very excited about becoming a dad and he thinks Briana will be an amazing mother. It was a surprise at first, but he and Briana are very, very close friends and this has brought them even closer.”

It seems that the friendship and musical collaboration between Zayn Malik and producer Naughty Boy is official over, after the ex-One Direction member aimed some not subtle tweets at his former friend. The pair were thought to be working together on Zayn’s solo material ever since the 22 year old announced his departure from the boyband in March.

Ahead of their North American tour, Harry Styles has claimed that the new One Direction shows have been “some of the best we’ve had” and that the group has not been knocked off its stride despite Zayn Malik’s highly publicised departure earlier this year.

Styles was speaking to Entertainment Weekly ahead of the latest leg of their ‘On The Road… Again’ tour kicking off in San Diego on July 9th. The massive stadium tour has suffered from a dip in ticket sales, but that hasn't affected the band's mindset at all.

Katy Perry graces the cover of Forbes' annual ‘Highest Earning Celebrities’ issue this month, as the singer is ranked as the world’s highest paid female entertainer as well as the biggest money making musician. Perry comes in a number three overall on the list and is beaten only by boxers Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao after their record breaking fight last month.

Mayweather tops the list after making an incredible $300 million in earnings, mostly thanks to the ‘fight of the century’ which took place May 1st in Las Vegas. His opponent Manny Pacquiao didn't do too badly for himself either, coming in second place with earnings of $160 million.

Noel Gallagher has spoken out on Zayn Malik’s departure from One Direction in a new interview, expressing disbelief at the star’s choice not to tough it out with the group as, in his view, they have “at most, five years left”.

The former Oasis songwriter was talking to James Corden on ‘The Late, Late Show’ on Monday night, and said that he failed to grasp why Zayn would choose to quit the band when the group had a limited lifespan in any case. “I can't understand why he would do it,” he said, “because they've only got, at most, five years left.”

The superfan posted a picture of a young man riding the bus in LA - who had his long hair pulled back, earphones in, apparently lost in his music and with what looks like a remarkably Styles-esque nose - accompanied by the caption 'Harry on a bus in LA!' As it turns out, the man was actually, well, we don't know. 'It actually wasn't me', Styles confessed in a red carpet interview ahead of the band's performance at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas.

At last night’s Billboard Awards, Taylor Swift reached a new milestone in her career, becoming the award show’s most decorated artist. Her eight awards (out of 14 nods), including one for Best Artist, bring her Billboard total to twenty, more than the previous record holder, Garth Brooks.

Taylor had more than one reason to celebrate on Sunday though, since the award show coincided with the release of her music video for Bad Blood, featuring the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Selena Gomez, Karlie Kloss, Zendaya, Ellie Goulding, Hayley Williams and many more. The video premiered at the awards, after a brief introduction from the woman of the hour. Taylor also won a special achievement award chosen by fan voting.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao might have been billed as the fight of the century last weekend, but don’t underestimate the drama which can occur when a former boyband member, his producer and his ex-bandmate get into a twitter spat. Right, so it turns out that the fallout of Zayn Malik’s departure might be a bit more sensitive for everybody than One Direction’s management would like it to appear.

On Wednesday afternoon, a notable feud broke out on Twitter between Malik and remaining 1D member Louis Tomlinson, later continued on Zayn’s behalf by his producer friend Naughty Boy. For the first time, it indicates that there might be bad blood surrounding Malik’s departure after all.

Zayn Malik has deleted all references to One Direction on his Twitter account. His Twitter handle, which was @ZaynMalik1D until yesterday (Thursday 30th April), has been changed to just @ZaynMalik. The 22-year-old has also deleted the link to the One Direction website from his bio. To say One Direction fans are taking this recent update badly is something of an understatement.

On Tuesday night’s edition of ‘Inside Amy Schumer’, a fictional boyband, that may or may not have been based on One Direction, performed ‘Girl, You Don't Need Makeup’. A song which may or may not have been based on, ‘What Makes You Beautiful’. As well as being pretty funny, the song also inspired women to tweet Schumer selfies of their makeup-free faces, using the hashtag, #girlyoudontneedmakeup.

The song highlighted the mixed messages often heard in the media when it comes to make- up and natural beauty. Barely a month after the departure of Zayn Malik, One Direction are clearly wasting no time in getting on with their career. Group member Liam Payne has suggested that the songs for their new album sound “great” and a bit like Oasis.

Take That have offered some boy band-to-boy band advice to One Direction about how to carry on the aftermath of Zayn Malik’s departure, having been in the same situation themselves once upon a time.

Mark Owen was speaking to British radio station Magic FM when he was asked about the similarity of the two situations, and replied “Do you know what, one thing that we never did when Rob left us the first time is we never... After nearly a month of social media silence, former One Direction member Zayn Malik has tweeted for the first time since his departure from the group in the middle of the South East Asian leg of their world tour.

“Wanna say thanks to everyone that's been there for me over the last few weeks,” he wrote. “Love you all.. you know who you are x.” Nothing too profound or revelatory, but it’s a sign that the 22 year old is ready to re-engage with the world and, perhaps, some word of solo material.

Zayn Malik has made his first public appearance since leaving One Direction, at the fifth Annual Asian Awards. The 22 year old debut a new shaved hairstyle at the event, where he was accompanied by his mother Trisha Malik.

The 22-year-old was presented with the award for Outstanding Contribution to Music at the ceremony, which was held at London's Grosvenor House Hotel. Accepting the award Zayn referenced his time in the million selling pop group and thanked his former bandmates.

Zayn Malik’s plans of leading the life of a normal 22 year old might have hit bit of a roadblock, as it appears the former One Directioner is about to embark on a solo career. Zayn sent One Direction fans into a meltdown on Wednesday when he announced his departure from the boyband, after previously being signed off the group’s current tour due to stress.

In announcing his departure from the band Malik said in a statement, "My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I'd like to apologise to the fans if I've let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart.”

One Direction star Louis Tomlinson is single again, after splitting from his girlfriend of nearly four years Eleanor Calder. The couple’s split was confirmed after tabloids published pictures claiming to be of the 23 year old and a ‘mystery brunette’ over the weekend.

The future of the world’s biggest boyband One Direction could be in doubt, following a difficult week for the group which culminated in Zayn Malik leaving their 'On The Road Again' tour due to stress. Zayn Malik is leaving One Direction's tour and heading back to the UK. 22-year-old Malik has been signed off with stress. Malik will miss the next three tour dates in Manila and Jakarta. He is hoping to return to perform with the rest of the band in Johannesburg on 28th March for the last four concerts on their world tour. Simon Jones, One Direction's publicist, released a short statement on Twitter. "1D statement: Zayn has been signed off with stress and is flying back to the UK to recuperate. American hitmaker Meghan Trainor has confirmed a match made in pop songwriting heaven by revealing that she’s written a song with One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles.

The 21 year old dropped by BBC Radio 1 on Tuesday morning and told host Nick Grimshaw that the “cute acoustic love” song is called ‘Someday Maybe’. Grimshaw was asking Trainor about an earlier interview with ‘The Sun’ in which she indicated that the Styles writing hook-up had happened.

Amid rumours from some quarters that a split was on the horizon, global chart conquerors One Direction have dismissed such negativity and confirmed that the band will apparently record a fifth album.

Speaking at the inaugural BBC Music Awards, band member Niall Horan said when asked about the possibility of a new full-length record: "Yes, there will be.” There seemed to be some cross-communication, though, because his colleague Liam Payne had just confusingly commented “we're just so happy that this album (i.e. Four) has gone really well for us and it's kind of given us somewhere else to go with music now, if we do happen to do another one..."

Although everything else about 2014 seems to winding down ahead of the holiday season, there’s no sign of Taylor Swift’s dominance of the pop world coming to an end any time soon. Swift’s fifth album 1989 is spending a fifth week at the top of the US Billboard charts.

Having had her reign interrupted for a week at the end of November, with British band One Direction hitting the top spot with their new album Four, the 24 year old superstar returned to the top last week. With another 274,000 sales in the week ending December 7th, she has easily been able to retain her crown.

After a one week interruption, Taylor Swift’s new album 1989 returned to the top spot in the US Billboard 200. Having been dethroned by British band One Direction’s Four last week, the 24 year old’s fifth record, whose sales now stand at over 2.5 million, reclaimed its position at Number One.

Hello, this is your resident One Direction correspondent speaking. Four is number one in the US, repeat number one in the US. This is not a drill, people.

Everything is One Direction and nothing hurts.

While we should all be at least a little bit saddened by the fact that Taylor Swift’s masterpiece of a pop album, 1989, has been knocked off the top, the 387,000 copies of Four sold this week are a clear indicator of one thing. Unlike countless other boybands, One Direction have a formula that works long term. Or long-er term than your standard N*SYNC or Backstreet Boys anyway.

British pop group One Direction have made history in the United States, becoming the first group to have their first four albums go straight to number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The band, who formed following a stint on the UK X-Factor, shifted 387,000 copies of Four in the first week of sales, coming second only to Taylor Swift's all-conquering 1989 for largest debut of the year.

The band have now surpassed their own record, set when their third album, Midnight Memories, went to No.1 in the States.
