One Direction have announced they will play the SSE Arena in Belfast on Friday, after cancelling Tuesday night’s show when band member Liam Payne fell ill. The show on Tuesday evening was set to be the first of a three night run in Belfast for the boyband, however fans have been assured that tonight and tomorrow's shows are going ahead as planned.

One DirectionOne Direction have rescheduled their Belfast gig for Friday.

Writing on twitter Payne apologised to fans and said, "I'm so sorry to everybody I disappointed last night. I'm feeling better now. I really hope everyone can make the rescheduled date on Friday.”

"Thank you so much for all the trends and lovely messages you guys did for me it really shows how amazing u guys actually are. As I said I'm feeling much better now and I really can't wait to perform and make it up to everyone later.”

Fans in Belfast were left devastated on Tuesday night, when the gig was cancelled just half an hour before the band were due to take the stage. Many young fans were reported to be in tears when it was announced that their idols would not be performing as planned.

Today many queued for hours outside the SSE Arena arena awaiting word on wether tonight’s show would go ahead. Friday’s show will take the place of an ice hockey match between Belfast Giants and Sheffield Steelers, which has been cancelled and now rescheduled for a later date.

On twitter Harry Styles told upset fans, "Deepest apologies to everyone at the show tonight in Belfast. Very disappointed, but unfortunately these things happen. We're very sorry.” While Louis Tomlinson added, ”We're so so sorry for what happened, it was out of our control Lots of love to Liam and thank you for being so understanding.”

Belfast-born TV presenter Eamonn Holmes gave his thoughts over the cancelled gig on twitter, angering some sympathetic fans of the boyband. "I don't care who was sick in #OneDirection. Rest of them should have had the decency & maturity to appear on stage and explain,” Holmes wrote.

Then after receiving angry messages from fans of the band Holmes added, "For all of you who can't read , I didn't ask for #OneDirection to Sing , I asked for them to Apologise in person to fans who turned up."
