It's been a long time coming, but she's ready to open up to the world.
She might be one of the richest people in the world, and indeed the only black billionaire in America, but surprisingly, with all her business ventures in mind, Oprah Winfrey has yet to unveil an autobiography. That's about to change soon though because this media superstar has finally signed a deal to publish her memoirs, 'The Life You Want'.
Oprah Winfrey's memoirs are coming in 2017
The book will be published via Flatiron Books and comes hand-in-hand with her own as-yet-unnamed imprint on Macmillan which will also feature a selection of other non-fiction works. She has decided against publishing a collection of memoirs throughout her career, getting close to it in 1993 before abruptly cancelling it. The closest she has got so far is 2014's 'What I Know for Sure' which featured various columns from her 'O' magazine.
Publisher Bob Miller revealed in a statement that the memoirs will be 'a remarkable combination of Oprah's life story and the lessons we can all draw from it for our personal growth', and Oprah herself has admitted she'll even be including the 'painful' stories of her life. Of course, it's not too much of a surprise that Winfrey hasn't been eager to open up about her life so publicly in a candid book. Indeed, she has been through a lot of hardships that have proved difficult for her to talk about in the past; despite the fact that she is the talk show queen, she has always been more focused on impacting other people's lives rather than talk about her own.
Winfrey is well known in the publishing world for her televised 'Book Club' segment, which has seen many of her selections hit number one on Best Seller Lists since she plugged them. She no longer hosts 'The Oprah Winfrey Show', but continues with her magazine, her OWN network shows and her work on movies such as the Oscar winning 'Selma'.
