Review of Scream (Funk My Life Up) Single by Paolo Nutini

Paolo Nutini is back after five years with the release of his third studio album 'Caustic Love' - and there definitely feels to be a new air about him. You might be used to the infectious rock of his previous singles, but his latest single 'Scream (Funk My Life Up)' explores new musical ground.

The raw, gravelly vocals are still there but this time are infused with a tremendous amount of soul. It's a little unexpected; with its sci-fi synth whirring at the beginning, you're not necessarily predicting that Nutini is going to break into such a funk-fuelled number. There's an amazingly smooth rhythm about it that continues as the guitars properly kick in with that rock vibe that shows us he's not straying too far from what we know and love about him.

If any song is going to put a smile on your face and make you get up and dance it's this one; it's just one of those light-hearted tunes that are composed purely for injecting fun into a party atmosphere. It's matched for its ability to bring cheer only by Pharrell's 'Happy', though it's not exactly children's film material with lyrics such as, 'Hell, I don't even know her name but yet she sticks to me/ And in the climax she would scream with me'.

'Scream (Funk My Life Up) is an upbeat number with just the right amount of cheekiness and is definitely one that you're going to be singing along to for the next few weeks. Just the ticket for a spectacular comeback.
