Scottish singer Paolo Nutini has pleaded not guilty to a drink driving charge.
The New Shoes star was arrested in his hometown of Paisley in Scotland in February (17) after he was stopped by police officers, who discovered he was over the drink-drive limit when they took a breath test.
The 30-year-old appeared in Paisley Sheriff Court on Wednesday (08Mar17) with his lawyer Massimo Franchi, who entered a plea of not guilty on his client's behalf.
According to prosecutors, Nutini allegedly had 48 micrograms (mcg) of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, which is more than double the 22mcg legal limit, while driving his Mini Cooper.
Franchi asked for Nutini to be ordained to appear at future court hearings rather than being given bail, but requested he be excused from a pre-trial hearing because of his work commitments.
“He travels frequently, out with (sic) Scotland and the UK, not only for work, but also, he does a huge amount of work for charity," he said, according to Scotland's Daily Record newspaper. “He will be in regular contact with me throughout the entire process... If anything changes, as an officer of court, I would invite him to attend.”
However, Sheriff Derek Hamilton agreed about not giving Nutini bail but ordered him to attend all hearings.
He is due to stand trial in June (17).
