Movie veteran Paul Newman has upset his actress wife Joanne Woodward after going back on his word to stop racing cars at breakneck speeds. The 81-year-old hit 296 kilometres-per-hour (184 miles-per-hour) at a race meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, last weekend (01-02APR06) and now fears he'll never be able to give up his love for fast cars. But Woodward is devastated by the news, worrying her husband die in a high-speed crash. Newman says, "Every year she becomes a less happy camper. She has been very supportive, and I thank her for that, but she's getting restless." The actor admits he has to lie about his racing plans, telling his wife, "I'm just going fishing with the guys."
