Paula Abdul (born 19.6.1962)
Paula Abdul is an American singer, dancer, choreographer and TV talent show judge.
Childhood: Paula Abdul was born to Lorraine and Harry Abdul in the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles.
Her mother was a concert pianist, who once worked as an assistant to Billy Wilder. Her father owned a sand and gravel business and traded livestock. He was born in Syria and was raised in Brazil before moving to the USA. Both of Paula's parents are Jewish.
As a child, Paula Abdul was taken with the likes of Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Debbie Allen and Bob Fosse and started dancing lessons at the age of eight.
Whilst studying at Van Nuys High School, Abdul was a cheerleader and at the age of 15, she earned herself a scholarship to a dance camp in Palm Springs. In 1978, she landed a role in a low-budget musical, Junior High School.
Paula Abdul briefly studied broadcasting at the California State University. However, during her first year there, she was selected to join the cheerleading squad for the Los Angeles Lakers (known as the Laker Girls). She quickly progressed to head choreographer and quit university to focus on dancing and choreography.
Dance & Choreography: Early on in her career, Paul Abdul was hand-picked by Jackson 5 to choreograph the video to their single 'Torture' after they had watched her at a Lakers match. The success of the video led to Abdul choreographing the entirety of their Victory tour. She also went on to work with Janet Jackson on her Control album and tour.
In 1995, Paula Abdul released her own dance workout video, named Paula Abdul's Get Up and Dance! This was re-released in 2003 on DVD. In 1998, she released a second workout video, entitled Cardio Dance. This was also re-released, in 2000. Abdul then released a DVD series in 2005, marketed at young girls. Called Cardio Cheer, the series focused on cheerleading, dance and workout.
Paula Abdul has also worked as a choreographer on a number of successful films, including Big (working for Tom Hanks' character), Coming to America (starring Eddie Murphy), Jerry Maguire (starring Tom Cruise) and American Beauty (starring Kevin Spacey).
Music: 1988 saw the release of Paula Abdul's debut album of pop music, Forever Your Girl. Although it took 62 weeks, the album eventually reached number one on the US Billboard album charts in the US. The album spawned four number one singles, 'Cold Hearted', 'Straight Up', 'Opposites Attract' and 'Forever Your Girl'. The video for 'Opposites Attract' became particularly resonate, for its feature of an animated cat named MC Skat Kat.
Paula Abdul's second album, Spellbound, was released in 1991. The album sold over 13 million copies across the globe. The video for the lead single, 'Rush Rush' featured Keanu Reeves playing a James Dean type character. One track on the album, entitled 'U' was written by Prince, especially for Paula Abdul.
Following a period of her life that she spent battling with the eating disorder bulimia nervosa, Paula Abdul returned to her music career and released another album, Head Over Heels. Following the album's release, Paul Abdul took another break from the music industry. In 2000, Virgin Records released a greatest hits compilation, which sold over one million copies across the globe.
In 1997, Paula Abdul co-wrote a song called 'Spinning Around' with Kara DioGuardi. The song was intended to re-launch Abdul's career but instead, the song was given to Kylie Minogue and revived her career instead.
TV: In 2002, Paula Abdul started as one of the judges of the TV talent contest American Idol, alongside Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson. Abdul and Cowell often clashed on the show, as she disliked Cowell's blunt approach to dismissing contestants. She has been the subject of a number of comedy sketches, such as Amy Poehler's take on her for Saturday Night Live and Nicole Parker's on MADtv. Paula Abdul also acted as a guest judge in the early rounds of the UK show X Factor, when Leona Lewis auditioned.
Paula Abdul also landed a job as a reporter on Entertainment Tonight.
In July 2009, Paula Abdul announced that she would be leaving X Factor.
Said contestant said the judge squeezed her 'too tight'.
You thought TV was glamorous? You thought wrong. It's a messy, messy business; at least, it was for Paula Abdul who got spectacularly vomited on during Monday night's (June 6th 2016) episode of 'So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation'. She was a helluva sport about it though.
Paula Abdul gets a nasty surprise from 'SYTYCD' contestant
The spotlight was just too much for 12-year-old Chi Tahani and, after a lot of jumping around on stage to the beat of Beyonce's 'Countdown' for her audition, she wasn't feeling so good. She seemed happy enough after realising that she had impressed both the judges and the audience, but after three golden tickets were waved at her sending her through to the next round, her fast-moving feet promptly collapsed beneath her and she ended up throwing up all over judge Paula Abdul's red jacket. Well, that's one way to make an impression.
The talent show has taken its final bow after 15 seasons on Fox.
Simon Cowell made a surprise return to ‘American Idol’ on Thursday night, for the finale of the show’s 15th and final season. The former judge even offered a slight apology for being so mean to the contestants over the years and also thanked viewers for letting them into their homes for the past 15 years.
Simon Cowell made a surprise return to ‘American Idol’ for its last ever episode.
Cowell surprised fellow judges Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson when he appeared on the ‘Idol’ stage and joked: "I just thought this would be a good [opportunity] on behalf of myself, Randy, Ryan and Paula to apologize, over the years, for being so mean to the contestants.”
'American Idol' judge and mentor Randy Jackson retires from the show.
'American Idol''s last original judge Randy Jackson is finally stepping down from the show after an impressive 12 year stint as both a judge and a mentor. While there's been reports in previous years of his ever impending departure, this time it's for good.
Randy Jackson finally leaves 'American Idol'
The former musician and record producer has been a constant fixture of the TV singing competition since 2002, where he worked alongside Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell on the judging panel. As of 2014's Season 13, his role was changed from panel judge to in-house mentor, but now it's finally time to say goodbye. 'After 13 seasons, I felt now was the perfect time to leave American Idol', Randy Jackson announced in a statement to Deadline. 'I'm proud to have been a part of a series that discovered some incredible artists and will go down in history as one of the most successful television shows ever.'

Ok, so the biggest party in America was over at the Presidential Inaugural Ball in Washington D.C. on Monday (January 21, 2013) though it wasn't the only place to find glitz and glamour in the capital! It was a similarly star-studded affair at the Creative Coalition Ball held at the Harmon Center at 6th and F Streets, Northwest.
Red carpet attendees at the bash for the non-profit advocacy group for arts and entertainment included Oscar winning actress Melissa Leo, actor Matt Bomer, Hollywood star David Arquette and actor Omar Epps. Former American Idol judge Paula Abdul was one of the more high profile guests, and tweeted to her 2.4 million followers, "Can't wait for the Creative Coalition ball! SO thrilled to be able to witness and take part of inauguration weekend!"
After a fashion-show disaster, Austrian TV host Bruno (Baron Cohen) is fired from his show Funkyzeit. So he decides to become a big star in America instead. He tries just about everything, from working as an extra in Medium to testing his own pilot series. Next he adopts a celebrity cause (peace in the Middle East), tries to get TV coverage as a terrorist kidnapee, adopts an African baby and then visits a gay converter so he can become a straight star like his heroes Tom Cruise, John Travolta and Kevin Spacey.

Arsenio Hall is being taken to court over child support payments for his five-year-old son, as he thinks he should pay based on his current income, not his 12 million USD per year from his peak.
American comedian, actor and talk-show host, Arsenio Hall, is being sued by his former personal manager, Cheryl Bonacci, for paternity and child support money. A source spoke to television news show 'Celebrity Justice' to tell them that the 'Coming To America' star has never denied that he is the father of Bonacci's five-year-old son, but is not agreeing on how much money is should be paying for child support.
Hall, a former boyfriend of Paula Abdul, was one of America's most prolific and highest grossing entertainers in his day, with paycheques of around 12 million USD each year at his peak. However, Hall now states that child support should be based upon the amount he currently earns - rather than what he used to earn.
