Pete Doherty Performs Protest Gig

Pete Doherty

Pete Doherty performed at a protest in France on Thursday (04.05.17).

The Libertines and Babyshambles singer - who has lived in the European country for several periods of his life - was among 30 performers and dozens of anti-racism groups who gathered at a rally at the Place de la Republique in Paris to demonstrate against the ''threat'' of far-right presidential candidate Marine Le Pen.

Pete reportedly warned the crowd - who had signs bearing slogans such as ''Multicoloured people = Happy France'' and ''No borders, no nations'' - that Le Pen's anti-immigration stance was ''not some distant threat, you know. It's like a shadow at the gate''.

Pete Doherty The Libertines

Pete Doherty has performed at a protest rally in Paris this week, staged to warn about the “threat” posed by far-right presidential candidate Marine Le Pen, ahead of the crucial elections this weekend.

The Libertines and Babyshambles frontman, 38, has lived in France for several years on and off in his life, and was among 30 musicians and dozens of other entertainment groups who performed at an anti-racism rally organised by French youth groups at the Place de la Republique in the French capital on Thursday (May 4th).

STV reported the same day that Doherty took the opportunity to address the placard-waving crowd, and said that Le Pen’s hardline proposals for immigration policy were “not some distant threat, you know. It’s like a shadow at the gate.”

While it may have been one of the most anticipated reunions of the year, The Libertines are still proving to be as chaotic and unpredictable as they were in The Good Old Days. The cult band, consisting of frontmen and guitarists Pete Doherty and Carl Barat, along with drummer Gary Powell and bassist John Hassall, reunited this summer for a string of high profile festival dates across Europe.

While the performances have been widely praised by both fans and critics, the band have opened up about some of the more shambolic moments from their summer on the road.

The Libertines' Hyde Park Gig Opposed By Hyde Park Residents

The Libertines Pete Doherty Carl Barat

Carl Barat has issued a pragmatic response to those opposing The Libertines’ comeback gig at Hyde Park in early July. “If people are concerned about noise they shouldn't have moved to Hyde Park,” he said.

The LibertinesThis is what Libertines fans have been waiting years to see again

Barclaycard's British Summer Time gigs at Hyde Park on July 5th will see the iconic indie rock band perform their much anticipated comeback, but Mayfair residents have objected, specifically name checking Peter Doherty – the band’s controversial frontman – in their reasoning.

Carl Barat And Pete Doherty Reunite The Libertines For British Summer Time Festival

Carl Barat Pete Doherty

Pete Doherty and Carl Barât will reunite their band The Libertines to perform a one-off show in Hyde Park this summer. The gig will be part of the Barclaycard British Summer Time concerts scheduled to take place in London on 5 July. It’s news that fans of The Libertines have waited to hear since their last temporary reunion in 2010, when they played Leeds and Reading Festival.

The band, formed in 1997, initially split in 2004 as a result of issues between band members, allegedly due to Doherty’s addiction to heroin and crack cocaine. The news of the reunion was revealed by Doherty in an interview with Israeli newspaper Ynet: “I don’t know if Im supposed to even tell you this, but we were offered [the chance] to reform The Libertines for a show this July in Hyde Park…I said yes. The thing is when I think about it now, it was kind of a strange answer because I think in most days if you asked me the same question I would say no, but recently I tried to call Carl [Barât] and couldn’t reach him.”

Kate Moss Opens Up On Her 90s Heroin Chic Tag And Anorexia

Kate Moss Pete Doherty

For many, Kate Moss has been at the cutting edge of fashion for over two decades now, and for some, she’s a bad example for feminism and freedom of choice. During the 90s, she was branded anorexic and handed the title ‘heroin chic’ by the media, something her high-profile relationship with Pete Doherty only served to exacerbate.

"It was horrible, especially the anorexic thing," she told Allure magazine (although The Mirror quoted it). "The heroin, I was like, 'Oh, it’s just ridiculous I don’t do heroin. Just because I wear a bit of black eyeliner that’s smudged'." Moss, though, denies that she was ever anorexic. "But the anorexic thing was a lot more upsetting, to be held responsible for somebody’s illness. I wasn’t anorexic,” she adds.

A Week In Music, Justin Timberlake's 'Rude' Video, Dinosaur Pile-Up's Promising Second Album And Babyshambles Make A 'Sequel'

A week in music videos... It may have received bad press recently what with the video being banned from YouTube for its nude content and such, but Justin Timberlake's new song 'Tunnel Vision' is a pretty smooth R&B track and it's not like we didn't expect from rude bits from JT; he's been talking about getting girls naked since 2002's 'Justified'! All that aside, it's what we wanted from his number one third album 'The 20/20 Experience'. Plus, it's consistent - another great track after 'Suit & Tie' and 'Mirrors'. Check out the video for yourself.

Mayer Hawthorne will soon return with his fourth album 'Where Does This Door Go' and, if it's anything like the music video to his latest track 'Her Favorite Song', it will be full of surprises. The track may be a serious mix of the melancholic and ambient, but he contrasts this by having canines run the club in this clip - and we think a bit of comedy is the best pick-me-up for a fledgling music career. Watch Mayer Hawthorne's 'Her Favorite Song' video.

Shambles: Pete Doherty To Sell Amy Winehouse And Kate Moss' Fag Ends

Pete Doherty Amy Winehouse Kate Moss

Um...eww! Pete Doherty has announced plans to sell the random celebrity tat his friends haven't bothered to bin when they're round at his, according to an interview with NME. "I've got fag butts that belong to Bobby Gillespie, Kate Moss and Amy Winehouse, and I've got Christmas paper that [former Coventry City goalkeeper] Steve Ogrizovic sent to the guy from Black Sabbath. All kinds of sh*t, basically," proclaimed Doherty, sh*t here being the keyword.

Would You Buy From This Man? Pete Doherty To Sell Friends' Junk.

It seems he needs a bit of extra dosh to fund his expensive lifestyle in Paris, where the guitarist and poet is reportedly living with Home Alone child star, Macaulay Culkin, with plans to acquire said cash with some good old cockney market stall dealing. He wants to set up a market stall in the alternative and eclectic Camden market - the borough of London where his friend 'Back To Black' singer Amy Winehouse unexpectedly died in 2011. Yes, the famous market specialises in the bizarre but isn't cigarette butts and scrunched up wrapping paper a bit much? Doherty has previously revealed to The Independent that he is quite the hoarder too, describing the "silks, bones, leathers, skulls, palettes - what's that thing you put canvases on? - oh yeah, easels, frames, boots, laces, wigs, mannequins..." that lie in piles about the mansion he used to rent from Lord Cardigan. Sounds like someone needs a little visit from TV cleaning duo Kim and Aggie.

Yep, You Heard Us Right: Babyshambles Announce New UK Tour

Pete Doherty Babyshambles

It’s been six years since a Babyshambles album and a good couple since they headed around the UK on tour. Have we missed them? No, not really, even despite Pete Doherty’s middling solo efforts. In fact, since the always troubled Doherty has been in France trying to kick the smack habit it’s been quite refreshing not looking into his gaunt features at every turn, his eyes like black raisins staring out of every entertainment publication possessed with the passion of nothing at all.

Well, forget about those golden days, because Pete’s back and he’s bringing the rest of the Babyshambles crew with him. That’s right, with a third album in the works, the motley lot have thrown caution to the wind and announced a full UK tour, which will kick off in Glasgow on September 4th and finish up at Bournemouth on October 21st.

As the NME reports, the sessions that had been begun by the band were initially set to result in Doherty’s second album, but have ended up becoming this new third album – the first since 2007’s Shotter’s Nation. Expect: pork pie hats, Doherty coming on stage two hours late and Libertines covers that are superior to any of the group’s original material. Or maybe they’ll surprise us…

"I'm Trying": Pete Doherty Attempting To Beat Drug Problems In Paris

Pete Doherty

Even though most of the world never really cared much about The Libertines in the first place, the British press still can’t get enough of the goings on of the short-lived indie group’s main protagonists Carl Barat and Pete Doherty. Ok, so mainly Pete Doherty.

Why? Because since the split of that group, Doherty has lurched from drug crisis to drug crisis, his own band Babyshambles and a lucrative return with The Libertines in 2011 not enough to stop his downward spiral - one that for some reason has proved fascinating for the media. Kate Moss’ former boyfriend has been quiet of late, though, and a new interview with The Guardian is his first in a while. In it he discussed his new life in Paris, and his continuing battles with addiction.

“Being in Paris is me making a statement of intent. It's like saying ‘I'm trying.’ Because it's so difficult to get decent gear over here” said Doherty to the paper. “I've got to make an effort now for my family, my son, my father. I'm not 23 anymore I'm 33 for Christ's sake. I've started the warm-up for the run at it. I'm going to give it a good go.”

"I Loved Amy Winehouse" - Pete Doherty Reveals Love Affair With The Late Singer

Amy Winehouse Pete Doherty

Pete Doherty has revealed, in an intimate interview with the Daily Mail, that he once had an affair with Amy Winehouse and claims that he is still in love with the singer, who died last year, at the age of 27.

Both Amy and Pete (the former frontman of The Libertines) have had their musical talents overshadowed by their enduring struggles with addiction and substance abuse. Winehouse’s struggle though, ended tragically with her early death.

Sat in his favourite Parisian bistro, Wagon Bleu, Doherty reveals “yes, it’s true. Amy and I were lovers. I loved her then and, well, I still do today.” He added “but towards the end, as only lovers can, she became quite mean and cruel to me. She didn’t suffer fools... and believe me, she had a mean right hook.” During the interview, he is reminded of comments that he made about Amy three years ago, when he said “I’m kind of in awe of her because I do believe she is an incredible talent who has come out of nowhere. And like a lot of the greats she is irreplaceable so .  .  . we don’t want to lose her.” His response to hearing those words once more, was to say “Wow, I said that, did I? Well we did lose her. There but for the grace of God go I, is what I say.”

Moss 'Buys Anti-heroin Implant For Doherty'

Kate Moss Babyshambles Pete Doherty

Kate Moss has reportedly shelled out thousands of pounds on an anti-heroin implant for former boyfriend Pete Doherty.

The 33-year-old split up with the singer last week after claiming he cheated on her with a South African model; bringing an apparent final end to a tumultuous two-year relationship.

In a message on the Babyshambles website singer Doherty, 28, admitted his band will be "scaling down touring because it's implant time coming up soon".

And a source told the Daily Mirror that Moss recognised that her junkie ex still needed "help and support", despite the fact she feels "terribly betrayed" by his infidelity.

"Kate is very aware that Pete still has issues with drug use and doesn't want to leave him in the lurch completely," an unnamed insider told the tabloid.

"Helping him with his medical care is one thing that Kate wants to do for him."

Doherty is said to have withdrawn into his music since Moss broke up with him and changed the locks on her north London home.

"He could have gone into meltdown following the split but he is managing to hold it together," a source told the Mirror.

Pete Doherty's £500k Blood Paintings

Pete Doherty Babyshambles Kate Moss The Libertines

A collection of artwork by Pete Doherty featuring the singer's own blood is to go on sale in London next week.

The controversial Babyshambles frontman could make £500,000 from the sale of 14 paintings and several prints when his Bloodworks exhibition opens at Notting Hill's Bankrobber gallery on Tuesday May 15th.

Doherty's blood-spattered canvasses are expected to fetch £50,000 each, with the other works and prints priced at £20,000 and £1,000 each respectively.

Last month Doherty, 28, teamed up on stage with former Libertines bandmate Carl Barat at one of the singer's Hackney Empire gigs.

But his friend told the Sunday Mirror that does not think the Kate Moss' junkie lover "will ever change".

"I love Pete like a brother and I am working with him again," Barat said. "But he could end up dead in a few years if he doesn't sort himself out."

Pete Doherty Boasts About His Former Career As A Rent Boy And Drug Dealer To Fuel His Addictions

Pete Doherty The Libertines Babyshambles

Pete Doherty, formerly of the band The Libertines, chose to reveal his past experiences as a prostitute and drug dealer in order to fuel his various addictions. Before becoming famous with The Libertines and having enough money to fund his cocaine and heroin addictions, Doherty worked as a rent boy and, on at least one occasion, robbed one of his gay clients after tying him up in his Chelsea home.

While now working as frontman for the band Babyshambles (having been kicked out of The Libertines for allowing his addictions to escalate to the point where he appeared on stage intoxicated), Doherty admits that he used to hide bundles of cash in his fridge in order to set up drug deals.
