Peter Berg is to direct 'Father's Day'.

The 'Battleship' filmmaker - who helped Rihanna through her big screen debut in the sci-fi movie - has signed up to helm an adaptation of the book by 'Friday Night Lights' writer Buzz Bissinger, who also happens to be Peter's cousin.

The tome - which was published in May - tells the story of the author's relationship with his twin sons, one of whom has intellectual difficulties, and the book centres around a road trip from Philadelphia to Los Angeles taken by father and son that helped Buzz understand his child a lot more.

Peter - who has written a number of sports books including '3 Nights In August' - has taken the potential film to Universal, where he has a first-look deal, and he is also gearing up to work with the studio on another book adaptation, 'Lone Survivor', which will see him direct.

The project is set to star Mark Wahlberg, Ben Foster and 'Friday Night Lights' star Taylor Kitsch, with the trio expected to play three Navy SEALs who get captured by the Taliban.
