'Doctor Who' returned to our screens this weekend, gaining rave reviews for what would be the start of Peter Capaldi's final outing as the titular character in the long-running sci-fi series. Though we know his regeneration is right around the corner, we're not exactly sure when or how it will take place, or even who will be stepping into Capaldi's shoes once all is said and done.

The BBC has been compelled to issue a public plea to discourage people from sharing details from five Doctor Who scripts that have been leaked recently. The broadcaster made its appeal to fans after the full scripts from Peter Capaldi's first series as the Doctor somehow surfaced after being sent to Miami.

"BBC Worldwide is currently investigating a security issue around Doctor Who series eight where unfinished material has inadvertently been made public. The BBC has revealed the costume for the new Doctor Peter Capaldi in Doctor Who. Like those of the ranks of the Time Lords before him, Capaldi's striking outfit is bound to become an iconic facet of the sci-fi drama. Described by the actor himself as "100% rebel Time Lord," the get-up comprises of heavy Doc Marten boots, a crisp, white button down shirt, a navy, Crombie-style dress coat lined with luxurious red satin and a matching waistcoat.

The exciting new snap revealed by the BBC shows the new Doctor looking serious and pointing his finger at the camera in a pose many Twitter users have likened to that of a Spice Girl, a member of a particularly coordinated boyband or John Travolta performing 'Greased Lightning' in Grease.

Doctor Who fans got a real treat yesterday, when the costume of the 12th Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi, was unveiled. The Doctor’s costume is hugely identifiable with the actor who wore it – Tom Baker’s scarf or Matt Smith’s bowtie being a couple of examples. Capaldi’s outfit will consist of a dark blue Crombie coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, white shirt and black Dr Marten shoes, possibly an echo of the tenth Doctor’s Converse shoes. It's the work of costume designer Howard Burden.

BBC1 premiered their new series, The Musketeers, last night (19 Jan.) to an audience who couldn't be more undecided as a whole regarding what they had seen. The latest retelling of Alexandre Dumas's tale of pre-revolution fighters is one of the channel's flagship entertainment programmes for 2014, looking to fill the void for those trying to come to terms with the end of another season of Sherlock. A difficult task indeed, and one that many think has not been accomplished.

SPOILERS AHEAD! The show stars Luke Pasqualino, Santiago Cabrera, Tom Burke and Howard Charles as our sword-wielding musketeers, doing good in 1630s Paris in the name of the King and country. That is until the very first scenes however, when Peter Capaldi's villainous Cardinal Richelieu kills off D'Artagnan's (Pasqualino) father and discredits the work of the Musketeers, sending them on the run. Their tale begins from there, trying to prove themselves as loyal and moral fighters who wish to only serve good, whilst also having to dispose of and discredit the evil doings of the twelfth Doctor Who.

Benedict Cumberbatch has said that he is looking forward to seeing his friend Peter Capaldi's first full series of Doctor Who, describing it as 'great news.'  Speaking to the Big Issue the Sherlock star said, "I'm very excited to see him in Doctor Who, he is a class act, Peter, and a great actor."

The pair are no strangers to working together, having both starred in the 2003 ITV series Fortysomething and more recently the Julian Assange biopic, The Fifth Estate.  Filming has just begun on Doctor Who's eighth series and The Thick of It star seems to be easing into his new role nicely. Pictures and a video (below) from the set have shown the Scottish actor riding a mechanical horse in his pyjamas in a very un-Malcolm Tucker like moment Capaldi was also required to ride a real horse but left that to one of the stuntman telling fans he's, "Afraid of the horse and the horse knows it".

He may have to battle against evil forces across the universe when playing the latest incarnation of Doctor Who, but for Peter Capaldi the best roles are reserved for these villains he will very soon be battling regularly. The Scot actor will play the evil cardinal in BBC1's ambitious new project The Musketeers and recently spoke with What's On TV about what makes being bad feel so good.

Perhaps best known for his role as the foul-mouthed Malcolm Tucker in the political sitcom The Thick of It, Capaldi made his name through playing one of the most wretched comedy characters in recent memory, with the Oscar-winner soon getting used to playing the baddie. When it came to his new role in the Alexandre Dumas-inspired series, he apparently couldn't wait to get back to these wicked ways.

The latest fan footage shows the new Doctor clad in long pyjamas charging down the street upon a mechanical horse.

The bizarre and hilarious scene will presumably be explained when the new series, which is expected to premiere in late summer this year, begins airing. Though watching Capaldi grow into his eccentric new role was a novelty for fans, for the Doctor Who crew the shoot was just another day at the office as they went about their tasks whilst Capaldi's bonkers horse scene played out.

New Years Day was the busiest day of the year for the BBC iPlayer service, with the majority of the nation engaging in what’s widely known as ‘a duvet day’. Basically, hung-over people watched Dr. Who. That’s what happened. It was a pretty monumental episode, too, with Peter Capaldi coming into to replace the now-departed Matt Smith.

The BBC may have been the overall winners in terms of audience share on Christmas Day this year, but Brendan O'Carroll's British-Irish sitcom proved consistently the most popular programme of the day.

There was a lot of promise surrounding the Christmas episode of Doctor Who and when it aired on BBC 1 on Christmas Day it very much lived up to the hype and expectation buzzing around the show and the exit of the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith. The exit of Smith also meant one other thing, the regeneration of the Doctor into his twelfth form: enter Peter Capaldi.

The Christmas special - called 'The Time of the Doctor,' in relation to the fiftieth anniversary episode 'The Day of the Doctor' - was full of action and packed in plenty of entertainment in the lead up to Smith's eventual bow out from the show that launched him to stardom. The episode featured Daleks, Time Lords, Cybermen, Weeping Angels, a town called Christmas and more and even Amy Pond (Karen Gillan), the Doctor's former assistant, made an appearance in the show to say farewell the Eleventh Doctor.

Ian Watkins Trial: It's a shame we have to start with this one but little else has seen the headlines all week. The disgraced former Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins, 36, describing himself as a "determined and committed paedophile" in the ongoing court case, pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted rape and 12 other offences including sexual assault and taking, making and distributing indecent images of children.

What's more, innocent parties including Alexa Chung, Fearne Cotton and Ian "H" Watkins from Steps have been dragged into the reporting. Peaches Geldof has received stern criticism after she shared the names of the women who let Watkins abuse their children.

Director Peter Jackson expressed an interest in directing an episode of the BBC's long-running time travel drama, Doctor Who, to Entertainment Weekly. The Hobbit director said he'd direct an entire episode with just a golden dalek for pay even though he's known to already have two daleks. The Kiwi filmmaker said "They don't even have to pay me, but I have got my eye on one of those nice new gold-coloured Daleks. They must have a spare one."

However, there has now been a development to Jackson's aspirations: it seems that DW writer Steven Moffat has given a one-off episode the nod. During a recent Q & A event in Edinburgh, the showrunner addressed Jackson's request. "He's serious about it. We talked at The Hobbit premiere - he just wants a Dalek. So we'll give him a Dalek and he'll direct an episode. I think he'd like to us to go to New Zealand. I think it's entirely possible," he said via Blogtor Who.

Bill Nighy turned down the role of Doctor Who. The actor, in an interview with the Daily Express, revealed he had been offered the part but would not say when. He said he wouldn't reveal this as "the rule is that you are not allowed to say you turned that job down because it's disrespectful" to the actor who obtained the role.

However, according to a BBC report from March 2005, Nighy was one of the contenders to replace Christopher Eccleston. David Tennant won the role, becoming the 11th incarnation of the Doctor.

Peter Capaldi is a modest man. You'd never hear him boasting about winning an Oscar. Yep, the Glasgow-born actor, named as the new Time Lord last week, has more in his locker than the foul-mouthed and brilliant spin-doctor Malcolm Tucker from The Thick of It.

In 1995, Forrest Gump fended off competition from Pulp Fiction, The Shawshank Redemption and Four Weddings and a Funeral to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. Tom Hanks beat Morgan Freeman, Paul Newman and John Travolta to Best Actor, Jessica Lange for Best Actress for Blue Sky and Robert Zemeckis won Best Director.

However, look further down the list of winners and you'll find him. Peter Capaldi, winner of the Academy Award for Live Action Short Film for Franz Kafka's It's A Wonderful Life. Ok, so he tied the award with Peggy Rajski and Randy Stone's Trevor, but he still won.

The latest tick to hit the page for Peter Capaldi as Doctor Who is that of Bill Nighy’s; the British actor, talking at the premiere of his new film, About Time, offered up a full endorsement of the Scot, revealing that he’d been offered it in the past but turned it down.

Calling it a “brilliant, inspired choice” Nighy said: “It’s one of those things where you think ‘Of course he’s the Doctor,’” he added. “Why didn’t I think of that before? He’s a marvellous actor. He’ll be very good as the Doctor,” Nighy went on. “He’ll bring a lot of wit and dry humour. He’s elegant and he looks great.” (Metro)

About Time is Richard Curtis’ film as the director announced he’d be stepping down from directing. Nighy plays ‘Dad’, a man whose family has a weird quirk: the men in the family can all time travel. The sci-fi rom-com enjoyed its premiere at London’s Leicester Sq. last night.

The new Doctor Who will be revealed in a special live show on Sunday (August 4, 2013) with 'The Thick of It' star Peter Capaldi the clear favourite with the bookmakers.

According to the BBC, the half-four show will be presented by Zoe Ball and is set to feature an interview with the current Doctor Who Matt Smith and executive producer Steven Moffat. The casting remains shrouded in secrecy, with only a handful of those working on the long-running BBC show privy to the selection.

"The decision is made and the time has come to reveal who's taking over the Tardis," Moffat said. "For the last of the Time Lords, the clock is striking twelve."

The Fifth Estate tells the story of Julian Assange, the WikiLeak's founder, and his relationship with supporter Daniel Domscheit-Berg. Their relationship is placed under pressure at the height of the WikiLeaks saga. It focuses on Assange wrestling with his morals as he decides whether or not to publish information which may have endangered his sources.
