Doctor Who’s’ Peter Capaldi has revealed the show is looking for someone ‘different’ to take over from Jenna Coleman as the Timelord’s companion. Coleman, who played Clara Oswald in the BBC series, departed in December and her replacement has still not been found.

Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman Doctor Who‘Doctor Who’ are looking for someone 'different' to be the Timelord’s new assistant.

Speaking to the Radio Times, Capaldi said: "We’ve just had some brief talks about it, we haven’t actually chosen someone yet — that I know of. Perhaps someone has been chosen but I would expect that I would meet them before we finalised all that."

"So we’re looking for someone different," the actor added. Back in November, showrunner Steven Moffat revealed that Coleman’s replacement still had not been found.

“We went to the BBC yesterday to talk about the type of person we might be looking at,” Moffat said during the ‘Doctor Who’ festival. “To my unending terror, we have not yet finished episode 11 and episode 12 is nowhere near finished so we haven’t actually delivered the show yet.”

Capaldi then added, “I’m not quite sure where we’re at. But I will [be involved] at some point. Obviously at the end of the day, it has to be someone I’m happy to work with.” Last week it was revealed that Moffat would be leaving the show in late 2017 and handing over to ‘Broadchurch’s’ Chris Chibnall.

“Feels odd to be talking about leaving when I’m just starting work on the scripts for season 10, but the fact is my timey-wimey is running out,” Moffatt said in a statement. “While Chris is doing his last run of 'Broadchurch', I’ll be finishing up on the best job in the universe and keeping the TARDIS warm for him.”

Earlier this week it was also reported that Capaldi could be following Moffat when he exits, so Chibnall could chose his own Doctor. A source told The Mirror: “Bosses are already discussing a fresh start when Steven Moffat leaves. They’ve been happy with what Peter has brought to the role but some think it might make sense to give Chris his own choice of actor to play the Doctor.”
