The writers have a big finale planned - bigger than ever before.
The fourth season of Game of Thrones has ignited a lot of controversy, which on a show all about sex, murder and little bit of politics, is really saying something. With the season finale coming next week, fans who are already caught up on the books can just sit back and watch the rest of us fry as we wait for the mindblowing (or completely anti-climactic) final episode to unfold. After all, the showrunners have been known to fire off all their plot twists pre-finale before. Take The-Event-That-Must-Not-Be-Named of season 3 for example.
Tyrion's life is at stake for the finale.
Fortunately, the folks behind Thrones are promising a much more thrilling conclusion to season 4. According to Entertainment Weekly, next week’s episode will break the narrative pattern, set by previous season – big shocking event in the ninth episode, and then a quieter wrap-up in the finale.

“It’s the best finale we’ve ever done, bar none,” Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss said in a statement. “The performances from our cast, the direction from Alex Graves, the VFX work, the new [music] cues from Ramin Djawadi—all of it came together in perhaps the finest hour we’ve produced. We’re immensely proud of ‘The Children.’ And a little intimidated by the episode, because now we have to get back to the business of season five and figure out a way to top it.”
Poor Arya has been set on a new course, yet again.
Just a reminder of all the remaining loose ends: we still need to find out the fate of Tyrion (Peter Dinklage), who was sentenced to die in the eight episode. Arya also has a new and unclear path ahead, although that storyline is unlikely to produce any big shockers in the finale. Then we have Jon Snow, who is off to face Mance Rayder. The Sansa, Baratheon and Theon/Reek/Ramsay Bolton plotlines seem to be pretty much wrapped up for this season, as does Dany’s story in Mereen. Still, this staff writer would eat nothing but old dragon scales for a week, if we don’t get a curveball from the Khaleesi in episode 10.
