American Pastoral Trailer

American Pastoral is based on Philip Roth's 1998 Pulitzer Prize winning novel which follows the life and Seymour Levov and his observations on his fellow man and the inevitable fake veneer many of us build to masquerade their real personalities.

Seymour Irving Levov has always lived a quiet life, he takes over his family business and marries a woman he loves very much. They have a large house and live a very comfortable life. They have a beautiful daughter called Meredith and up until her teenage years, Merry is much like any other kids but there's a turning point.

Various social influences - in particular the war - make a huge impact on Merry's life and she soon becomes an extremist, after growing more and more weary of her voice not being heard, Merry plants a bomb in a local post office and she becomes a wanted person.

At Middleton Trailer

It seems you can take a kid out of college but you can't take college out of a kid as two discontented parents find themselves struggling to behave themselves as they take their respective 18-year-old children to visit their new college campus Middleton. George and Edith are total opposites who find themselves completely uninterested in each other's quirks initially; George is a serious, suit-wearing heart surgeon desperately worried about the academic future of his overly chilled out son, while Edith embarrasses her hard-working daughter with her laidback attitude and never being too afraid to speak her mind. When the parents find themselves separated from the campus tour, they actually start enjoying each other's company and slowly but surely begin to fall in love as they help each other come to terms with the complications of parenthood.

Crossing Delancey Review

Good
Amy Irving headlines a strange trip through New York love, Annie Hall style, as her bookstore staffer encounters a headstrong author and a pickle maker en route to romance. Will she find happiness in the arms of paper or dill? Cryptic and meandering, don't be surprised if you have trouble caring who she falls for in the end.

Traffic Review

Weak

"Traffic" is a socially and politically grandstanding soap opera about the narcotics trade and the futility of the "war on drugs." It's a film about how that war is propagated by bureaucratic demagogues in the United States government, not because they think they can stem the flow of illegal substances but because they think saying they want to is a way to win elections.

OK. Point taken.

"Traffic" is also gritty and realistic feat of cinematic logistics, following no less than 15 major characters (and more than 50 speaking parts) through several complex, well-acted storylines about all sides of the drug trade -- from kingpins to cops to policy wonks to addicts. So my hat is off to the picture's ever-brilliant director, Steven Soderbergh ("Erin Brockovich"), who certainly does a fine juggling act, involving the audience in every story on a personal level.
