After weeks of speculation following Edgar Wright’s high profile Ant-Man departure, a new director has finally been revealed: Peyton Reed will now helm the project starring Paul Rudd and set for release in 2015.

Reed is most notable for Yes-Man, the 2008 comedy starring Jim Carrey, but his most critically acclaimed work is 2000’s Bring It On. His highest grossing film is The Break Up, starring Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn.

The vacancy was left open after Wright quit the project, ostensibly by mutual consent. It was later revealed that artistic differences surrounding the film’s screenplay were behind his exit, opening the door for weeks of rumors and whispers.

Adam McKay was heavily tipped to take over last week, but it was reported that he had pulled out of talks. He’ll still be involved, with Marvel confirming that he will help with the highly contentious script for the movie.

One of the film’s stars, Michael Douglas, recently broke his silence over Edgar's departure, admitting it was "very disappointing". In a video on the website Schmoes Know he was asked about the director's departure. "I was, very disappointed. I'm a big fan of his movies [and] it's a very disappointing situation."

He said Edgar's exit was "very late in the game", adding: "I don't think anybody's quite recovered." Michael continued: "My heart goes out to Edgar. He's been involved with the project for a long time, but he's talented enough that you'll be hearing a whole lot from him, and I'm sure with a little vengeance."

Wright was also the recipient of a popular tribute from Marvel legend Joss Whedon. The Firefly creator leapt to his defence by raising aloft a Cornetto in reference to Wright’s well-liked trilogy comprising Shaun of The Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End.
