Late Philip Seymour Hoffman Delivers Classy Turn In 'A Most Wanted Man'

Philip Seymour Hoffman Anton Corbijn

It will probably be bittersweet to fans of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman that one of the Oscar winner's final performances before his untimely death in February just happened to be one of his finest. Anticipation was always high for A Most Wanted Man - a forging of the creative talents of Hoffman and the auteur Anton Corbijn and now, on the week of its release, critics agree that it lives up to expectation.

Hoffman stars as Gunter Bachmann, a hard-drinking anti-terrorism boss seeking to develop sources within the Islamic community that will lead his team to higher profile suspects. Bachman finds himself at odds with the paper-pushing intelligence head in Hamburg, Dieter Mohr, who would rather arrest first, and ask the questions later. The pair clash over a 26-year-old half-Chechen, half-Russian immigrant who turns up in Germany looking near death after suffering torture and imprisonment. Classified as an escaped militant jihadist, the man is of interest to Mohr who wants him arrested, though Bachmann sees the bigger picture.

Philip Seymour Hoffman's Final Will Deals Out Tough Love (And Nothing Else) For His Children

Philip Seymour Hoffman

It looks like Philip Seymour Hoffman was a proponent of tough love. The late actor’s final will has finally seen the light of day and one thing that is drawing everyone’s attention is Hoffman’s treatment of his children.

Philip Seymour Hoffman
Hoffman did not want his son and daughters to fall into the "trust fund kids" cliche.

The actor died on February 2 of a heroin overdose, but despite his sudden and tragic end, he had his estate in order. Hoffman did what may be the greatest parenting decision – not wanting his children to be considered “trust fund kids,” he didn’t leave them any money. Well, not directly, anyway. Instead, most of Hoffman’s considerable fortune, a reported $35 million, amassed over 25 years in the business, will go to his partner, Mimi O’Donnell.

Philip Seymour Hoffman Refused To Set Up Trust Fund For Kids

An article in The New York Post today revealed that acclaimed Hollywood actor Philip Seymour Hoffman rejected suggestions from his accountant to establish a trust fund for his three children prior to his death.

The actor died of a tragic drug overdose in February at the age of 46 after struggling for many years with addiction. He left behind his long-term partner Mimi O'Donnell and their three children, Cooper (10), Tallulah (7) and Willa (5). The attorney appointed by the court to protect the interests of Hoffman's children, James Cahill Jr., recently interviewed Hoffman's accountant David Friedman, who "recalled conversations with [Hoffman] in the year before his demise where the topic of a trust was raised for the kids and summarily rejected by him".

'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1' Is Coming, President Snow Has A Message For You

Jennifer Lawrence Julianne Moore Philip Seymour Hoffman Woody Harrelson

The first teaser clip has been released for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. Well, we say teaser but it’s cunningly disguised as a piece of cold-blooded propaganda from the Capitol to the people living in the Panem districts.

The 90 second clip works well to get fans of the franchise into the Hunger Games mindset and make them excited for Francis Lawrence’s film five months before its release. Appearing dressed in white and sitting on a white throne in a white room, Snow addresses the citizens of Panem with a message.

God's Pocket Trailer

God's Pocket seems to be an ordinary working class neighbourhood at face value; full of people with ordinary jobs and ordinary families. However, a dark undertone begins to show when Mickey Scarpato's insane stepson Leon dies following a so-called accident at a construction site. Mickey wants people to believe he slipped and fell to his death (not that anybody cares that the town is short of a man like Leon), but Leon's mother Jeanie is desperate to know what really happened. While Mickey tries to comfort his wife, Jeanie is approached by a shameless reporter named Richard Shellburn who is also investigating any mystery behind the death. All Mickey wants is the body in the ground and a large debt of his to be repaid - but it looks like his life is about to get a whole lot more complicated.

GWAR's Dave Brockie And Entertainment's Dangerous Relationship With Heroin

Kurt Cobain Layne Staley Peaches Geldof Philip Seymour Hoffman John Belushi River Phoenix

GWAR frontman Dave Brockie died of a heroin overdose Other celebs who have passed away from the drug It was recently announced that frontman of theatrical horror-rock band GWAR has died of a heroin overdose, just another victim of a substance that each year lays waste to thousands upon thousands of tortured souls across the world. In the celebrity sphere, and music world especially, heroin is an all-too common cause of death that has taken the lives of many of the world’s iconic figures.

GWAR performs at revolution liveGWAR frontman Dave Brockie died of a heroin overdose earlier this year

It is also synonymous with certain movements and genres. It’s usage in the grunge era was ubiquitous much the same as it was amongst the likes of Led Zeppelin and the monsters of rock that flourished in yesteryear. To some, heroin is viewed with romanticism that has inspired countless songs, from The La’s “There She Goes” to Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day.” As such, it’s often viewed as a glamorous addition to one’s lifestyle, especially those with a fondness for the ‘gonzo’ literary works of Hunter S. Thompson and William Burroughs. But first and foremost, despite its allusions as a pathway towards creative bliss, it is a killer that ensnares the victim in a routine of cop and fix that can so easily lead to degradation and eventual death.

A German spy belonging to a secret anti-terrorist group named Gunther Bachmann embarks on his latest mission when an immigrant named Issa of both Chechen and Russian descent is discovered in Hamburg, following a traumatic experience of torture back home. Issa insists he is the heir to a large fortune, enlisting human-rights lawyer Annabel Richter to help him claim it, but Gunther's colleagues are not convinced; they believe he is an Islamic terrorist who needs to be arrested and interrogated immediately. Gunther sees things a little differently, and is more suspicious of his relationship with Richter rather than his more obvious circumstances, but when it suggested that Issa could be in league with a Muslim philanthropist who is also an advocate of terrorism, he has to decide if Issa is the villain his co-workers suggest he is. Or could he just be the imperilled victim of the whole situation?

Brittany Murphy Philip Seymour Hoffman Paul Walker Heath Ledger Richard Harris Oliver Reed

Brittany Murphy’s final movie ‘Something Wicked’ is due to be released over four years since her tragic and ambiguous death. The plot focuses on a young couple who find themselves faced with a past that they had hoped would remain buried. Murphy died in 2009, after allegedly being stricken with acute pneumonia and severe anemia. The same results were found on her husband, Simon Monjack’s post mortum, when he died just five months after her.

Over the past 15 years Brittany Murphy is not the only star to die before their latest project is released. Oliver Reed suffered a heart attack whilst filming Ridley Scott’s Gladiator, which came out in 2000. The movie was completed using CGI and a stunt double to finish his scenes.  Those of you who have seen the movie can appreciate quite how flawlessly this was done, it's virtually impossible to tell that Reed isn't in certain scenes.

Despite the causes of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death being tragically clear, the official toxicology report has confirmed that the late actor died due to a lethal concoction of prescription drugs, cocaine and heroine on Sunday, February 2, 2014. CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta explained how hardened drud addicts can build up a tolerance, increasing the danger of overdose.

"They're not feeling [the effect of the drug], but it's still having an impact on their ability to breathe, and that's the real problem. It's called stacking, “ he explained. That's how people get into trouble," he adds. “They do call it accidental death as well."

A Week In News: America's Darling Dies, Samuel L Jackson Feels The Fury, Flappy Bird Meets Its Maker

Shirley Temple

RIP Shirley Temple: For younger generations, the death of Shirley Temple may not be as heart-rending as for those who grew up with the adorable, depression-era actress and watched her help pull America out of its slump. Temple died peacefully at home aged 85 on the 10th February after a life of reinventing herself and bringing joy to others through her many talents. You may or may not know that Temple was huge in China, but why? Find out here. Shirley Temple: 1928-2014.

Samuel L Jackson Makes Himself Clear: Samuel L Jackson has been involved in what was arguably the biggest foot-in-mouth moment of the year so far. In an interview with KTLA's so-called "entertainment reporter," Sam Rubin, Jackson was asked about his recent Super Bowl commercial...only, the Robocop actor didn't have a Super Bowl commercial, leading to quizzical stares and the immortal quote "what Super Bowl commercial?" as it dawned on the star that Rubin had him confused with fellow black actor, Laurence Fishburne. Read about the fall-out and watch the toe-curling video here.

Twitter Doesn't Like Drake (Today) After Rapper's Philip Seymour Hoffman Remarks

Drake Philip Seymour Hoffman

If Drake’s reaction to his Rolling Stone cover being cut this week was a bit over the top, then the reaction of some twitter users borders on downright insane. Here’s the rundown. After Drake’s cover was pulled without warning by Rolling Stone, to be replaced with the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, the Canadian rapper got upset. And like most of his peers, he took to Twitter to pen the following gem: “I'm disgusted with that. RIP to Philip Seymour Hoffman. All respect due. But the press is evil.”

Drake in Concert
"Evil" wouldn't have been our first choice of word.

The tweet has now been deleted (as has been the one directed at Kanye West), but screenshots of it are still floating around the ether. It certainly wasn’t a classy move on Drake’s part, especially since he continued his rant later, saying:
