Phillip Phillips is engaged! The 24-year-old American Idol winner announced his engagement to Hannah Blackwell on Friday (26th December).

Phillips, who won the 11th season of American Idol in 2012, announced his engagement via Facebook and Twitter. He posted a picture of himself with Blackwell as she flashed her engagement ring at the camera. Phillips added a caption to the picture writing: "My best Christmas surprise is happening. We're engaged yall!"

Phillips gave the camera an open mouthed but evidently ecstatic smile whilst Blackwell feigned shock, her ring hand covering her mouth. The ring appears to be a solitaire diamond on a simple gold band.

Blackwell also shared the news of their engagement via Instagram, posting a picture of her ring hand close to a handmade Christmas Bauble with a picture of her as a child on the tree. Blackwell added the caption: "I've been dreaming of this for over 20 years. I've been dreaming of this guy for just that long. Overwhelmed with happiness."

24-year-old Phillips and Blackwell began dating before Phillips' music career launched after he won American Idol. The two met whilst volunteering at a women's shelter in 2009, as E! reports. 

The two have stayed together despite the growing commitments in Phillips' life and career including the release of his second studio album, Behind the Lights, in May and his tour with O.A.R. (Of A Revolution) during the summer. Phillips, when he won American Idol, praised Blackwell for her support. "She was so excited for me and she helped me out a lot through this," Phillip said shortly after the American Idol finale. "She's supported me throughout all of this. I love her to death!"
