Lessons In Love Trailer

Richard Haig is a remarkably intelligent, charming, ageing poetry professor, whose life away from the classroom at Cambridge is one of constant hedonism and an unquenchable lust for women. He thinks nothing of sleeping with his attractive grad student Kate and even shamelessly makes a move on her hardlined older sister Olivia, much to her displeasure. Richard is forced to confront the consequences of his over-indulgent behaviour when Kate announces she's pregnant with his child. While fatherhood has never appealed to him much, he is ready to settle down, get married and experience family life, but when Kate falls in love with somebody else, it becomes clear that he's still got a long way to go before he can be considered a responsible person. No Escape Review

Excellent

One of the strongest action thrillers in recent years, this gripping movie cleverly casts actors known for comedy in the central roles. And it works so well that you can't help but see a new trend on the horizon. But the real reason this film is so effective lies, of course, in its script, which never dumbs down for the audience. Instead, it cleverly leaves out irrelevant details, keeping viewers guessing about essentially unimportant elements while getting on with the frantic mayhem.

It opens as Jack and Annie (Owen Wilson and Lake Bell) fly to Southeast Asia with their daughters (Sterling Jerins and Claire Geare) to start a new life after Jack's business back home went under. He has a new job here helping provide drinking water. What they don't know is that their plane lands at just about the same moment as the population uprises and overthrows the greedy prime minister, then sets its sites on interloping Westerners. So before they've recovered from jet lag, this family is running for its life. The only person who helps them is the disheveled Hammond (Pierce Brosnan), who's actually a shady British operative with a helpful local sidekick (Sahajak Boonthanakit) who loves Kenny Rogers. But the mob is on the warpath.

The film kicks off and never lets up, ratcheting up the tension quickly and propelling these characters into a series of outrageous cliffhanger moments. It's startlingly violent for a film with a fragile young family at the centre, so the peril feels real. And filmmaking brothers John Erick and Drew Dowdle do a terrific job at merging action movie cliches with gritty authenticity.

When asked whether he could envisage 007 portrayed as a gay man, Brosnan said "Sure. Why not?"

There’s been much talk about Idris Elba being cast as the next James Bond, potentially becoming the first black man to portray 007 on the big screen. However, Pierce Brosnan has said that he could also see the womanising secret agent being portrayed as gay man in future movies.

“Sure. Why not?” he said to Details magazine about whether such a script might be possible, before adding, “Actually, I don't know how it would work. I don't think Barbara [Broccoli, Bond producer] would allow a gay Bond to happen in her lifetime. But it would certainly make for interesting viewing.”

Pierce Brosnan was stopped by airport security personnel for attempting to board a US flight while carrying a knife.

The Irish actor, famous for playing James Bond, was temporarily apprehended by agents of the Transport Security Administration at Burlington International Airport in Vermont for passing through security with a 10 inch (or 25 cm) hunting knife in his hand luggage, according to The Telegraph.

Sir Roger, now 87, told The Sun that only Sean Connery is holding out on the idea.

Sir Roger Moore, the veteran actor perhaps best known for his stint at portraying James Bond, has made the extraordinary revelation that there are plans afoot for an unofficial James Bond movie similar to The Expendables, which will feature all the old 007 actors.

In an interview with British tabloid paper The Sun, the 87 year old actor claimed that producers are hoping to feature him, GEORGE LAZENBY, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan in a feature film – but at the same time admitted that Sean Connery isn’t interested.

Survivor Review

Good

Unusually gritty and grounded, this terrorism thriller avoids the pitfalls of most overwrought action movies by creating characters and action situations that are unusually believable, even if the plot itself feels badly undercooked. The problem is that there isn't a clear sense of what's at stake here, because screenwriter Philip Shelby insists on continually blurring the mystery by withholding key details until he's ready to reveal them. So the cleverly played old-style suspense never quite pays off.

It opens at the US Embassy in London, where new security chief Kate (Milla Jovovich) has been alerted to the fact that terrorists are trying to get visas to enter America. Working with the ambassador (Angela Bassett) her team leaders (Dylan McDermott and Robert Forster), Kate narrows in on a suspicious doctor (Roger Rees) who's an expert in explosive gasses. But a shocking bombing stops her short, framing her as the villain. Now she's being chased not only by the Americans, but also a British inspector (James D'Arcy) and a ruthless assassin known as The Watchmaker (Pierce Brosnan). And Kate knows that she's the only one who can stop the nefarious plot, whatever it might be.

This is one of those films that enjoyably pushes its central character over the brink, so we can't help but root for Kate to get out of this seriously messy situation and save the day. Jovovich plays her in a plausible way as a capable woman who has no choice but to fight back and try to survive, because she's the only one who knows that she's not the real threat here. Everyone else is extremely shadowy, although McDermott gets to show a heroic side, as does the terrific Frances de la Tour as the only embassy staff member who believes that Kate is the good guy. Meanwhile, Brosnan gives a remarkably effective performance as a cold-blooded killer.

Nielsen, a company more well-known for TV ratings, has compiled a list of the most influential celebrities in terms of how people respond to them, and found that people buy what Neeson tells them. Wouldn't you?

Ever wondered who the most influential celebrity is? ‘Influence’ could mean many things in this context: in the movie or television industry, on politicians, in social media. But in terms of advertising clout – that is, the most effective celebrity at selling a certain product – then that person is Liam Neeson, apparently.

A recently conducted survey by Nielsen, a company which nominally tracks and analyses TV viewing figures but is moving into measuring public attitudes towards well-known figures, found that the Taken actor is the most likely celebrity to make somebody buy something. Whether that’s because he’s usually waving a gun in somebody’s face or about to punch them, we don’t know.

Could Colin Salmon play James Bond?

Pierce Brosnan, whom previously played 007 four times between 1995 and 2002, says the next James Bond should be played by one of two black actors: Idris Elba or Colin Salmon. The Luther star remains the heavy favourite to replace Daniel Craig as Bond though Salmon, who previously played MI6 Deputy Chief of Staff Charles Robinson, has been backed in after getting Brosnan's blessing.

"Yeah, he would actually," Brosnan said when asked if Elba would make a good Bond. "Colin Salmon also. May the best man get the job and may Daniel bring home the bacon for as long as he wants," he added, to the Radio Times.

The Irish actor's ocean-front luxury home took $1 million worth of damages in a house fire on Wednesday night (Feb 11th).

Although it must have looked like a movie set, there was nothing fake about Pierce Brosnan helplessly watching his Malibu home take serious damage in a fire on Wednesday night (Feb 11th), which caused an estimated $1 Million worth of damages.

According to KABC, around 50 Los Angeles County firefighters responded to the blaze at 9:48 p.m., which first broke out in the garage of the property. The fire was contained and extinguished within 35 minutes, and before it spread to the main part of the house.

Oh no! Pierce Brosnan's Malibu house went up in flames.

A house in Malibu belonging to the former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan caught fire on Wednesday night, the Los Angeles County Fire Department confirmed. Photos posted to social media showed a portion of the house engulfed in flames though the true extent of the damage is as yet unknown.

Fire Department dispatch supervisor Michael Pittman said that the fire started at 9.48pm in the garage of the house in the 31000 block of Broad Beach Road. Around fifty fire-fighters were called to the residence and had the blaze controlled by 10.28pm.

November Man Review

Very Good

Even though it never feels believable, this twisty spy thriller has such a quick pace that it's consistently entertaining. Packed with surprising revelations, the movie makes terrific use of shady American espionage agencies and villainous Russians, as well as a former James Bond. As with most of these kinds of films, it's also far too violent and edited in such a way as to make the action almost incomprehensible. But there's a sense of breezy fun to the film that keeps us watching.

It's been five years since CIA operative Peter (Pierce Brosnan) retired from active service, but his old friend Hanley (Bill Smitrovich) needs his help. So he heads to Moscow to intercept an operative with whom he has a past, and everything goes spectacularly wrong. He ends up in a face-off with his former protege David (Luke Bracey), a current CIA spy who is now ordered to eliminate his mentor. But there's life in Peter yet, and he manages to keep one step ahead of David, travelling to Belgrade to intercept a young woman, Alice (Olga Kurylenko), who is the key to a major operation that centres on a dodgy Russian politician (Lazar Ristovski). Chased by American spies and Russian thugs, Peter and Alice make a run for it.

Director Roger Donaldson has been making slick political thrillers since 1987's No Way Out, and he knows how to divert the audience's attention from plot holes and contrived action by simply never pausing for breath. He also packs the scenes with characters who bristle with snarky attitude, making them far more interesting than the usual action movie line-ups. Brosnan is clearly having a great time charging through each scene, nodding continually to his 007 history while playfully adding spark to his banter with Bracey, who just about keeps up with the "we know each other too well" interaction. And Kurylenko dives in with gusto, vamping it up gleefully as a woman with a lot of secrets.

'The November Man' is nothing more than a dumb thriller, roll on the fall.

The November Man? Pfffft - Roger Donaldson's latest movie deserves to be nowhere near the penultimate month of the year, packed full of Oscar-bait and genuine quality. No, this formulaic thriller starring Pierce Brosnan as a highly trained ex-CIA agent is perfectly placed. Back end of August. Summer blockbusters are done and dusted, now we're just waiting for the fall.
