It's frustrating for any musical connoisseur that carefully manipulated pop reigns highest on most music charts, but it looks like psychedelic legends Pink Floyd could beat One Direction on Amazon's most pre-ordered albums list with their final release 'The Endless River'.

Pink Floyd could beat One Direction with their final release

The band, whose last album ten years ago entitled 'The Division Bell' became a worldwide number one, managed to easily overtake Coldplay's 'Ghost Stories' as most pre-ordered album of 2014 and now their new record may be held up as the most pre-ordered of all time - a title currently held by One Direction's 'Midnight Memories'.

More: One Direction set another record. Sigh.

'That Pink Floyd's 'The Endless River' could become the most pre-ordered album of all time on Amazon.co.uk, following other artists like One Direction and Robbie Williams who have held that top spot, is a testament to the strength and diversity of the UK music scene',  Amazon EU Digital Music director Steve Bernstein said in a statement.

More: Details of the album were announced this summer

If they manage it, it will be a monumental day for British music - it's just a shame we won't be hearing anymore from them as they have spectacularly announced that 'The Endless River' is their last ever record - for anyone thinking it was a comeback album after ten years. Despite the fact that he hasn't worked with Pink Floyd for their last two albums, former member Roger Waters' involvement with the current offering was still thrown into question, something which he frustratedly dismissed earlier this month.

More: Stephen Hawking was rumoured to appear on one of the tracks

'The Endless River' will be released on November 10th 2014.
