A series of official events have been lined up in the U.K. to mark the moment Nazi Germany signed an unconditional surrender, ending World War II in Europe, on 8 May, 1945.

Queen Elizabeth II will begin the three days of celebrations by lighting the first of 100 ceremonial beacons on Friday (08May15), and on Saturday evening, a concert will take place in central London.

Star turns performing for the crowds will include Lott, Status Quo, Elaine Paige, R&B singer Jamelia, tenor Alfie Boe, and boyband Blue.

Reports earlier this year (15) suggested Sir Paul MCCartney, Sir Elton John, and Rod Stewart had signed up for the concert but they are not named on the official list of performers.
