PJ Harvey has officially announced that her as-yet-untitled ninth studio album is on its way and will arrive in spring 2016. The album was recorded in front of fans last year at Somerset House in London, as part of Harvey’s month-long ‘Recording in Progress’ residency.

It also features footage of Harvey playing a heavy riff on her guitar and singing, "This is the ministry of defence, stairs and walls are all that's left.” The clip was directed by photographer and frequent Harvey-collaborator Seamus Murphy.

The album was created during Harvey and Murphy’s travels to Kosovo, Afghanistan and Washington, DC between 2011 and 2014. Their travels were chronicled in the book, The Hollow Of The Hand, which featured poetry by Harvey and Murphy’s photographs.

Harvey’s ‘Recording in Progress’ residency was held over a four week period earlier this year, beginning on January 16th. Tickets for the event sold out quickly, with fans being given the once in a lifetime chance to observe Harvey craft her album with her band and producers.

In a statement at the time Harvey said, ”I want 'Recording in Progress' to operate as if we're an exhibition in a gallery. I hope people will see the attention and the labor and the care that goes into making a recording. I hope people will see the interactions between everyone involved.”
