Plan B has launched a poignant new single entitled 'In The Name Of Man', accompanied by a heartbreaking video, exploring the complexities and atrocities of mankind. It's the first single from his long-awaited fourth studio album, the name of which is yet to be announced.
The London born musician, whose real name is Ben Drew, has directed a kind of dark puppet show for the 'In The Name Of Man' video, intertwined with moving imagery representing war and other human barbarity. The puppets act out scenes from such horrors, manipulated by a cast from London's Flabbergast Theatre.
'The only power we have as artists is to create a catalyst that sparks a conversation on a wider scale', he said in a recent 'Making Of...' commentary on the video. 'The more music, film and literature there is out there that appeals to better nature of our humanity, and makes us think about our actions, the better informed we'll be when we find ourselves in situations where we have a moral choice to make, and hopefully, help us make the right one'.
'In The Name Of Man' debuted last month on BBC Radio 1 where is was named Hottest Record on Mistajam's show. It came as he headlined the station's Big Weekend, marking his first live performance in four years. He's reportedly set to schedule some more live dates for later this summer.
His as-yet-untitled forthcoming album follows 2012's 'Ill Manors'; the chart-topping, Mercury Prize nominated soundtrack record for his movie and directorial debut of the same name. The album featured a collaboration with Labrinth entitled 'Playing with Fire' as well as the singles 'Deepest Shame' and 'Lost My Way'.
Plan B made his breakthrough four years after the release of his debut hip hop album 'Who Needs Actions When You Got Words'. 'She Said' became an international Platinum-certified pop hit and catapulted his second album 'The Defamation of Strickland Banks' to the top of the charts.
