Review of Post War Years album The Greats and The Happenings
Post War Years sit on a shelf between Hot Chip and TV On The Radio. The London based, but initially from the leafy Leamington Spa, foursome released their first album on 18th May.
The album opens with 'Red Room', a funk based harmonious track with a gun shot drum rhythm which sets the mood for the rest of the long player. Followed by 'Death March' we are again treated to some solid bass and a cacophony of vocals. Each of the tracks have something for everyone; be it prominent bass, intricate and cleverly worked guitar hooks and electronic synths, the layering of each is near perfection.
Post War Years have created an album that will be a huge hit with both the indie kids and the dance lovers in the hot sweaty tents at this year's festivals. A dynamic trough occurs at track four with the mellow 'Den'. Guitar picked harmonics and behind the beat, warm vocals provide a summer feel track. A funky danceable number rears its head with 'White Lies' and the guitar chops in 'Latin Holiday' draw out the indie influence. A clever and inspiring album, perfect for the impending warm weather.
Post War Years have contributed to setting the bar a little higher for the electro indie scene, and possibly make a step in creating their own niche in the market.
