Julia Gray 'Robber Bride' Second Album Released In The UK June 16th 2014

Julia Gray is a London-based singer-songwriter and piano player. Her musical influences include Tom Waits, Kate Bush, Blossom Dearie, Ani diFranco and Joni Mitchell. She frequently draws inspiration from contemporary and classical cultures, exploring universal archetypes and stories through the medium of song. She has written for television and film, has performed at Bestival, the Tabernacle, Bush Hall and the Union Chapel among many other places, and performs regularly at the legendary Troubadour, South-West London.

After training in both classical and contemporary singing, Julia began her performing career at the Kashmir Klub. She then co-founded the trip-hop/jazz collective Second Person, which became the first UK-based band to crowd-fund an album via Sellaband, an online community of fans. Second Person played a residency at Pizza on the Park, released three albums, CHROMATOGRAPHY (2004), THE ELEMENTS EP (2007) and COME TO DUST (2008), and received critical acclaim for their innovative music videos.

In 2009 Julia returned to acoustic music. Her first solo album, I AM NOT THE NIGHT, produced by Tristan Ivemy (Frank Turner, Kid Harpoon), was released in 2011 and described by Word Magazine as 'the sound of a potential realised'. I AM NOT THE NIGHT featured Gus Robertson (Razorlight) on guitar, violinist Max Baillie (The Noisettes) and drummer and percussionistAlvaro Lopez (Tim Minchin).

Her second solo album, ROBBER BRIDE, is a collaboration with award-winning South African producer Paul Ressel and was recorded with the support of the Arts Council. ROBBER BRIDE takes its name from the novel by Margaret Atwood; each song on the record seeks to retell a story from mythology, literature, poetry or film - from John Donne to Lionel Shriver. The first single, THE ARCHITECT'S SON, is a retelling of Daedalus and Icarus, and features an animated video by Tamara Webster.
