Primal Scream Country Girl Single

Out with the politics and Kevin Shields and in with the straight-ahead ballsy rock 'n' roll, Country Girl catches Primal Scream in a good mood. Sure, they miss Mr Shields' guitar symphonies and delicate textures, but when they can craft such glorious top-down, pedal-to-the-metal pop as this, any hang-ups will be quickly dispelled.

Driven by an insistent two note riff, this track would sound equally at home at your indie disco and on your dad's car stereo, and is thus the band's most accessible track for years, but has a faintly incongruous mandolin break to keep things fresh, and to distance themselves from the flock of retro-rock chancers.

If you're lucky enough to be heading anywhere hot this year, Country Girl will be a perfect soundtrack, and, if reports are to be believed, so will the album. So if you want big, fun rock 'n' roll that won't hurt your brain but isn't too dumb, look no further.
