Powerful Fentanyl Labelled As 'Hydrocodone' Found At Prince's Home

Prince

It has just been revealed that medication labelled as hydrocodone that was removed from Prince's home following his death actually contained dangerous amounts of the opioid fentanyl which was actually his cause of death. An investigation continues into how the singer came into possession of the drug in the days leading up to his passing.

PrincePrince could have been taking fentanyl without knowing

Pills that were labelled as hydrocodone were removed from Prince's Paisley Park home in Minneapolis following his death in April 2016. Only now a source close to the investigation has revealed to The Star Tribune that the drugs were not, in fact, hydrocodone at all, but another much stronger opiate-based drug known as fentanyl - the same drug which the coroner's office revealed the 'Purple Rain' singer overdosed on.

It's not clear whether Prince was knowingly taking fentanyl from a mislabelled container or if he believed he was taking hydrocodone, but authorities believe that the 57-year-old remained unaware of what exactly he was taking. It wouldn't be the first case of its kind, either, of people unknowingly buying counterfeit drugs in the Minnesota and North Dakota areas without a prescription.

More: Prince bought 'Purple Rain' house before death

Some reports reveal that fentanyl is 100 times stronger than morphine, while others say it is 50 times stronger than heroin. Without a doubt, however, it is true that no-one could have survived after taking the amount that Prince did regardless of the fact that he was very underweight at the time of his death.

Prince died on the morning of April 21st; his body was found in an elevator at his Paisley Park compound just one day ahead of his appointment with an opioid addiction doctor. He'd already collapsed several days beforehand on his private jet, and was eventually revived by paramedics. It is thought that he took the fentanyl 24 hours before he eventually died.

Prince "Secretly Bought 'Purple Rain' House" Months Before Death

Prince

Prince secretly bought the Minneapolis house which featured in his 1984, semi-autobiographical movie Purple Rain, it has been revealed. Prince purchased the property just eight months before his death and is said to have paid $117,000 in cash, just a little over the asking price of $110,000.

PrincePrince purchased the home featured in Purple Rain before his death.

Speaking to The Star Tribune the home’s selling agent, Deborah Larson said that one day last July she got a call from a woman in California who wanted to quickly make an offer “sight unseen” on the house.

Prince Turned Down 'racy' Sitcom Cameo

Prince

Prince once turned down a cameo in 'New Girl' because it was too racy.

Although the 57-year-old musician went on to have a guest starring role in season three of the sitcom, he originally rejected an offer to appear in a season two episode called 'Virgins' because the devout Jehovah's Witness wasn't comfortable with it.

Show creator Liz Meriwether explained in an article for Vulture: ''We had originally approached Prince in season two for a cameo in an episode called 'Virgins'. He said no. Obviously, in hindsight: The episode was too racy. But we were told he would be interested in coming back to do something else another time. I thought that was just the polite bulls**t of the casting world. So when his manager reached out at the beginning of season three to ask if we were still interested in having Prince on the show, I was shocked.''

Prince Just Released Two Albums In One Day, What Are You Doing With Your LIfe?

Prince

Any Prince fans out there? The artist formerly known as The Artist Formerly Known As Prince has just released not one but two albums – his “first official solo album” since 2010, Art Official Age (get it?)and the joint project with his female-driven warmup act, 3rdEyeGirl. The second album is called Plectrum Electrum and works in direct opposite to the futuristic sound of Art Official Age. Plectrum Electrum pays dutiful homage to the vintage sound of the rock trio, with Prince’s meticulous production adding the final layer of polish.

Prince
Prince is so down with the business, he's dropping the albums two at a time.

The link between the two albums is complicated and ambiguous, so pay attention. Art Official Age is credited as “recorded with” Chris James, a producer who has made dance music with Deadmau5 and others, and Joshua A.M. Welton, a producer and songwriter from Illinois. Mr. Welton is married to Hannah Ford Welton, the drummer in 3rdEyeGirl, and has played keyboards on their tour.

Michael Eavis Reveals Reason Why Prince Pulled Out Of Glastonbury 2014

Prince Glastonbury Festival Michael Eavis

Glastonbury Festival organiser Michael Eavis has revealed that Prince pulled out of playing this year’s event because of “social media chit-chat”. Prince had agreed to play the historic festival but became angered when the planned performance was seemingly leaked to bookmakers, who slashed the odds of the Purple one headlining.

“We wanted him to play and it got to the point where his people were talking to us about him doing it,” Eavis told fashion designer Henry Holland for the Guardian. “But before he confirmed he got really upset because he thought we had advertised that he was playing.” “Rumours get everywhere and one of those rumours was that Prince was coming, so he didn’t want to do it in the end,” he continued. “All the social media chit-chat now about who might be playing really doesn’t help us.”

Prince Live: Three More Shows In U.K, Is He A Glastonbury 2014 Headliner?

Prince Glastonbury Festival

When Prince played a set of guerrilla gigs in the U.K last February hysteria ensued. The legendary rocker has a novel approach the way he announces – and plays – his live shows. And we wouldn’t be surprised if the “special guest” at this year’s Glastonbury Festival turns out to be The Purple One. Headliner’s just too obvious.

According to The Guardian, who have an exclusive on this, Prince has scheduled three shows. Birmingham on 15 May, Manchester on 16 May and Leeds on 23 May, but, in true Prince no one knows which venues, or even whether he'll be playing with his band, 3rdEyeGirl.

Philip Seymour Hoffman

RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman: The world lost a true talent when actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his apartment last Sunday after a suspected heroin overdose, aged 46. Thougha autopsy results were ruled inconclusive, drugs paraphernalia was found littered all over his house after the Oscar-winning actor suffered a relapse to substance abuse despite having been clean for more than 20 years.

The father-of-three's break-up with his partner Mimi O'Donnell is said to have caused the Capote star to turn to drugs and not the confusion over his sexuality, as was falsely alleged by the National Enquirer. Since the death, four suspected drug dealers have been arrested and are being questioned with regards to selling Hoffman, who was found with a syringe in his arm, a bad batch. Sadly, we have lost one of the only actors working today whose acting prowess meant we'd instinctively trust any film with his name. Philip Seymour Hoffman (1967-2014).

Janelle Monae Erykah Badu Prince Miguel

Singer Janelle Monáe has dropped her sophomore album, Electric Lady, following on from 2010's debut The ArchAndroid. The 27 year-old, who has become famous for her distinctive glamorous tuxedo style, has carved out a musical niche, widely described as a cross between funkadelic soul and futuristic R&B: a rather unique sound that is no less evident and enthralling on her latest record.

In response to the question "Who are the electric ladies in your life?" in an interview with NPR, Monáe explained that "Electric Ladies cannot be marginalised.[they are] community oriented." Similarly, speaking to MTV News, Janelle spoke of the album's themes and direction: "This album isn't to be marginalized. It is of hope, of inspiration and of love," she said adding, "It is to encourage a million electric ladies to build and come into existence, and 'electric lady' does not have a particular skin colour or hair texture but our communality is community and wanting to nurture the community and knowing that we have to be the change."

His Twitter handle is also the name of the group 3rd Eye Girl, who have been accompanying the singer on his recent tours as his backing musicians. Initially, Prince was planning on leaving the Twitter business to them and his PR department, but it seems as though he couldn't help himself and had to join the Twitter hype, announcing his presence by with the status, "PRINCE'S FIRST TWEET. TESTING.1,2." Prince then went on to share a picture of his dinner, before posting his first 'selfie' self-portrait, however the picture appeared to be just mysterious wafts of smoke.

Prince Plans String Of Intimate UK Tour Dates

Prince

Prince will be returning to the British Isles later this year, performing on British shores for the first time since his 2007 residency at the 20,000 capacity O2 Arena in London. This time round though the pint-sized Purple One will be hitting up a completely different kind of venue, as it has been reported that Prince will only be playing small gigs during his time in Britain.

Prince
Prince has become accustomed to playing small shows again

Prince played for a 300-strong crowd during his SXSW performance earlier this year and has apparently regained his taste for smaller, more intimate concerts as he looks to get back to basics. A representative for the singer released a statement today detailing his desire to sample the more intimate venues the U.K. has to offer. He said, “It’s still to be decided if he’ll stay at one small venue and play 20 or more gigs or split his time between a few places around the country. Prince has asked his team to find unusual venues his fans wouldn’t expect him to play.”

SXSW: Brooding Nick Cave Mocks Texting Fans At Stubb's BBQ Show

Nick Cave South by Southwest Justin Timberlake Prince

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds delivered a stonking SXSW set at Stubb's BBQ on Wednesday (March 13, 2013), with the enigmatic frontman stalking around the stage at the NPR Music showcase and announcing, "We're going to start off with a really long song, and hopefully by the time we're done, it'll be dark."

It would set the tone for a mysterious but brilliant set from Cave and his band, which included the Australian wordlessly mocking his texting fans by imitating their thumb movements - there were more than a few red hipster faces in the crowd. Cave, who played several songs from his well-received new record Push The Sky Away, is one of the highlight acts at this year's festival in Austin, Texas, which also features performances from Kendrick Lamar, Justin Timberlake, Prince, Sound City Players, Green Day and Depeche Mode.

Cave has written movie scripts, novels and several great songs over the years, though speaking at the 27th annual South by Southwest Music and Media Conference earlier this week, he explained how it never gets any easier. "There are all these nasty births," he said of spawning new material,  "[It's like] pushing burning watermelons out of a tiny orifice."

Purple Rain Review

Excellent
Truth be told, Purple Rain isn't much of a movie, but it's one hell of a show. Just try to take your eyes off the 25-year-old Prince as he flaunts his unmatchable musical talent and raw sex appeal, blasting his way through the best soundtrack of the '80s. Fast forward through the talking bits, and you've got one of the best concert DVDs ever filmed.

The story, such as it is, centers around The Kid (Prince), a misunderstood sensitive artist type who, given his questionable wardrobe choices, probably got beaten up a lot in high school. Now he hides in the basement of his parents' house while evil Dad takes drunken swings at saintly Mom. When the tension is too much to bear, he chooses from his vast collection of leather and lace, pulls together a fetching and effeminate purple ensemble, hops on his kick-ass purple motorcycle, and heads to downtown Minneapolis, where he and his band are rising stars in the frenetic Twin Cities club scene.
