Music Midtown Festival Continues To Grow After Successful Rebirth

Music Midtown 2012 Logo

It looks like Atlanta's Music Midtown festival is on its way back up as 2013 brings us the biggest line-up since its return from a six year hiatus.

We are back to where we started with Midtown, which takes place on September 10th - 21st at Piedmont Park, as we see a 2 day, 2 stage event just like its debut in 1994. We've still got a long way to go before it's back at its peak with 3 days and 6 stages, but the line-up hasn't far off doubled from last year and another stage has been added too. The excitement when it was announced that Midtown was making its return in 2011 is hard to beat, but we reckon this year's line-up could reel in an even more impressive overall ticket sale.

Made In America Festival 2013

The Budweiser Made in America Festival 2013 was jampacked with highlights from some of the most iconic artists of the age, as well as some of the best up-and-coming stars and the hidden talent you'd be a fool to have missed.

Taking place over August 31st and September 1st in Philadelphia, the Saturday kicked things off with some impressive acts. Feisty California sisters Haim performed early on in the afternoon with a thoroughly entertaining set, in terms of both music and audience interaction, on the Liberty Stage where other must-see artists such as Deadmau5, 2 Chainz and triple BRIT winning Emeli Sande also thrilled the crowd. The Freedom Stage saw the likes of Rudimental further establish their place in the hearts of a large proportion of festival goers, while the Skate Park Stage saw much smaller bands such as Ohio group Cloud Nothings and New Jersey D&B duo Brick & Mortar get the ultimate chance to showcase their talents. The main Rocky Stage was, of course, the real crowd bringer, with Beyonce headlining and Phoenix and Imagine Dragons delivering the uttermost electrifying rock shows of the night.

Vampire Weekend Record Their Own Take On Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' [Listen]

Vampire Weekend Robin Thicke Pharrell Williams T.I Jimmy Kimmel Queens Of The Stone Age Foals

Just when we were all starting to get sick of 'Blurred Lines,' Robin Thicke's mega-hit featuring Pharrell Williams and T.I., New York rockers Vampire Weekend were on hand earlier this week to give us all another reason to care about the track once again as they gave their own take on the track. The performance was part of BBC Radio One's Live Lounge sessions and yes, it does feature an (attempted) rendition of T.I.'s rapped part as well.

Vampire Weekend
The group made the track their own

The laughter-inducing version, that is filled with ad-libs and the occasional cry of "dat falsetto!" whenever someone forgets a line, was recorded with glee by the 'Diane Young' rockers at the London radio studio. Hearing Ezra sing “You the hottest bitch in this place!!!” and mumble “pimpin” and “shake your rump!” in his best T.I. impression is as funny as it founds too, as the white boy indie kids break down into hysterics by the end of the track.

With a festival line up already that is sure to bring tears of unbridled joy to any self-respecting music fan, iTunes have gone and added another jaw-dropping act to their celebratory month of music this September. "Who could it be?!", you scream impatiently; well friends, be prepared to let out an involuntary cry of "hallelujah" because none other than Lady GaGa will be gracing Camden's Roundhouse stage come September.

Freaky pop queen Gaga will indeed be performing at iTunes Festival 2013 and The Sun have caught wind that a huge budget has been set aside to entertain the 3,300 fans packed into the London venue. September's show will be Gaga's first UK concert in seven months and will be likely to be the first live performance of tracks from her upcoming album Artpop. Sources say that her Haus Of Gaga team are spending £500,000 on the production to make iTunes' show as exciting as possible. The 27 year-old New Yorker has recently been resting in a wheelchair due to a labral tear in her right hip but one of her insiders spoke of Haus of Gaga's anticipation for the one-off September show: "The gig in Camden has a huge budget and is likely to be the first anyone sees or hears of her album. The Haus Of Gaga team have been working in secret on costumes and stage sets for the show from their base in Paris. Gaga's dancers have also been rehearsing but she's only told her closest friends about the new direction she's taking. The music is going to be a big departure and Gaga's dreamed up a whole new image for the album."

A Mighty ITunes Festival Line-Up

Kings Of Leon Vampire Weekend Ludovico Einaudi Queens Of The Stone Age Sigur Ros Jessie J Jake Bugg

Since yesterday's (19 June) mega announcement that superstar 'Sex on Fire' rockers Kings Of Leon, had been added to the bill, along with 'A-Punk' New Yorkers Vampire Weekend, there's a palpable excitement in the air as fans apply for tickets and sit tight.

Gone are the old ways of leaping to your laptop at 9 am as tickets go onsale and hitting the refresh button with shaking hands whilst thousands of others do the same in a bizarre battle of the F5 keys. iTunes have revolutionised the festival - instead of making fans shell out hundreds to be treated like medieval peasants, wading through excrement whilst clutching a £5 pint of warm beer - they're holding their month long celebration of sound at the recently refurbished and highly trendy Roundhouse venue in Camden.

There's enough pop acts to make any fan of the mainstream wet themselves, including Jessie J, Justin Timberlake, Jake Bugg and Rizzle Kicks, with an added healthy dosage of big-hitting names in the rock world, such as Paramore, Queens Of The Stone Age, Primal Scream and Kings of Leon.

Queens Of The Stone Age Hit The Number One Spot On The Billboard Album Chart

Queens Of The Stone Age

Rockers Queens Of The Stone Age have scored their first ever number one album as their latest release, ...Like Clockwork, climbed to the top of the Billboard 200 this week. The band battled off competition from fellow rockers Black Sabbath, whose comeback album 13 looks on course to take the top spot in the UK album chart instead this week, whilst French electronic pioneers Daft Punk managed to keep hold of the number two spot despite the pressure from their rock competitors.

The accomplishment has almost been matched across the rest of the globe, with Sabbath's release keeping them from the top spot in the UK, whilst the album managed to reach the number one spot on Australia and Ireland's respective album charts. Meanwhile, the first single from the album, 'My God Is the Sun', has been faring pretty well too, and so far has managed to scale into the top twenty of the Billboard US Alternative Songs chart, as well as receiving considerable airplay both in America and abroad.

The album has so far been routinely praised by critics, generally receiving a positive feedback from most press outlets, even those who occasionally sidestep rock releases. This is obviously great news for the band and, considering the time they've been together and the level of quality their releases have always tended to be, their achievement in the chart is a well-deserved one.

Queens Of The Stone Age Reveals Arctic Monkeys Alex Turner Among New Album Guests

Queens Of The Stone Age

Queens Of The Stone Age’s studio’s revolving door must have been getting plenty of usage during their last recording sessions, because not only have Josh Homme’s hard rockers announced new album ‘…Like Clockwork,’ but they’ve also revealed quite the extended list of collaborative stars who’ll be joining them on the record – not least one Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys.

The Arctic Monkeys of course recorded with Josh Homme for their third album Humbug, released back in 2009, and the relationship was a successful one, with Turner now returning the favour to appear on this LP. He’s in illustrious company too, with the press listing a list of varied and sometimes surprising names, including Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl, the legendary Sir Elton John, Nine Inch Nails man Trent Reznor, Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters. Additionally, previous Queens Of The Stone Age collaborators Mark Lanegan and Nick Oliveri will appear on the album, as will James Lavelle, better known as the man behind UNKLE. Homme has appeared on a number of UNKLE tracks in the past, including ‘See How It Feels (Trouble In Paradise)’ from 2007’s War Stories.

Foo Fighters Hiatus Confirmed By Dave Grohl

Foo Fighters Dave Grohl Nirvana Them Crooked Vultures Queens Of The Stone Age

After hinting that the Foo Fighters will be going on hiatus at last weekend's Global Citizen Festival in New York, Dave Grohl has confirmed this on the band's Facebook page in a warm letter to fans.

At Saturday's concert Dave Grohl said that he wanted to make the most of their performance as he was unsure when they would be performing together again. In his letter on Facebook he said “Yes... I was serious. I'm not sure when the Foo Fighters are going to play again”. But, do not despair! He followed this up by saying “I never want to NOT be in this band. So, sometimes it's good to just... put it back in the garage for a while...” He also referred to the band as his 'family', his 'life' and his 'world'.

Grohl also encouraged fans that they would all see more of his work very soon, as the hiatus allows him to work on his latest project, a documentary called 'Sound City' which he referred to as the “most important project [he's] ever worked on.”

Queens of the Stone Age, Queens of the Stone Age Album Review

All has been quiet in the land of QOTSA lately. While Josh Homme has been out touring with his buddies John Paul Jones and Dave Grohl in Them Crooked Vultures and Troy Van Leeuwen has been keeping busy with his sideband Sweethead, other than a re-issue of their seminal 'Rated R' album last year, nothing has surfaced from one of the best hard rock bands to walk the planet for some time. Now, with the first rumblings of a new album coming soon, Queens are finally re-releasing their long out of print, highly sought after self-titled debut album.

Josh Homme In Fight With Tim Armstrong Over Brody Dalle

Queens Of The Stone Age Josh Homme Tim Armstrong Brody Dalle

Josh Homme, frontman of Queens Of The Stone Age, has spoken out against Tim Armstrong, singer from Rancid. This came after Armstrong publically attacking Homme for dating his ex-girlfriend, Brody Dalle. Homme reportedly received multiple death-threats from various Rancid fans in response to Armstrong accusing him of 'stealing' Dalle from him.

Homme remains with Dalle, and decided that the best response would be to stay silent in order to disprove the rumours. He explained: "I got all kinds of threats. They were saying, 'We're gonna kill you.' And I was saying, 'I'm six-foot-five and I have red hair and I'm not hiding. Go ahead.' I didn't steal anybody's anything. But not saying anything became the only thing that had any truth to it.
