Django Unchained - Quentin Tarantino's latest movie that briefly held a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes - is a 66/1 shot to win Best Picture at the Oscars in March. In other words: it has no chance. Or so the bookmakers think.
The odds suggest that Clint Eastwood's poorly received baseball flick Trouble With The Curve has more of a chance of landing the Academy Award, as does the animated flick Brave, and British movie Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. The bookmakers' reluctance to give Tarantino's movie any sort of chance is a little confusing, given that it's one of the five films up for Best Motion Picture Drama at the Golden Globes. Django stars Christoph Waltz and Leonardo Dicaprio are both up for Best Supporting Actor, while Tarantino is up for Best Director and Best Screenplay. Ok, so the likes of Lincoln, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Steven Spielberg and Tony Kushner are the hot favorites in those respective categories, but it wouldn't be a huge surprise should Django nick a gong or two. Let's remember, the Golden Globes differs to the Oscars in that the organizers want the biggest stars available crammed into one room. Having Leonardo DiCaprio in the audience would be a coup for the Globes.
The nominations for the Oscars will be announced on Thursday, January 10, 2013. Don't be surprised should Django Unchained get a Best Picture nod, and watch as those odds of 66/1 tumble.
