The Roots Questlove David Bowie

Questlove of The Roots has insisted that the band will no longer be performing at the upcoming major David Bowie tribute concerts this week, which will be held at Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall in New York, following an apparent disagreement with another band who refused to let them borrow a drum kit.

The multi-instrumentalist, whose real name is Ahmir Khalib Thompson, took to Instagram to vent his frustrations over the 'b**chassness' of the situation, confirming that the dispute has caused him to pull out of the shows tonight and tomorrow (March 30th and March 31st 2016) along with peers Bilal and Kimbra.

SXSW: Justin Timberlake Plays Least Secretive Secret Show, Ever

Justin Timberlake Questlove South by Southwest

Justin Timberlake closed the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas, on Sunday (March 17, 2013) with one of the worst kept secrets...probably in the history of live music. The South by Southwest Festival does throw up its fair share of very secret shows, with some big names taking to their guitars in various bars at 4am, though Timberlake's show was anything but kept under wraps.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the game was given away almost immediately, when the Austin Police Department leaked news that J-T would be performing. They had prepared extra security for the pop superstar and subsequently dropped his name to the press. If for some reason that hadn't alerted fans to the fact that Timberlake was playing, advertisements for his new venture MySpace were littered all over the place. At one 800-capacity music venue on a heavily trafficked downtown intersection in Austin, passers-by were greeted by huge 'THIS IS MYSPACE' graffiti on the wall.

And then there was another piece of graffiti, "Secret Show," inked onto the side of another wall, in the customary Timberlake typeface. It was at the Coppertank venue where the gig eventually took place, with Questlove performing a supporting set before Timberlake took to the stage to play tracks from his two albums, Justified and FutureSex/LoveSounds, and forthcoming third studio album 20/20. He also took fans by surprise when covering INXS's 'Need You Tonight.'

Call Me Professor Questlove… The Roots’ Drummer To Teach At NYU

The Roots Questlove Amber Tamblyn Drake Clive Davis

We all know Questlove, right? The drummer for The Roots, a high profile musician in his own right and Amber Tamblyn’s amateur wedding photographer? Well, you can all call him Professor Questlove now because he’s soon going to be teaching a ‘Classic Albums’ course at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts during the Spring semester.

Whilst Drake is celebrating receiving his high school diploma at the age of 25, the 41 year old hip-hop dude is taking things one step further in the education world. If Jason King (associate producer of recorded music and head of history and criticism at the institute) is to be believed, Questlove is “one of the smartest people in music, besides being a fantastic musician. We thought [this class] would speak to his strengths.” According to E! Online, the two-credit course focuses on the music and lyrics of some of the greatest albums in music history, as well as taking a look at the production and business aspects, as well as considering why some albums stand the test of time better than others.

Questlove won’t be flying solo with this new venture, though; he’ll be joined by Harry Weinger, the A&R executive from Universal Music Enterprises. The news has been welcomed by those associated with the academic institute. Jeff Rabhan, the chair of the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, tweeted to say “Word is that @questlove is coming to teach a course next semester @CliveDavisInst on Classic Albums!" to which Questlove replied saying “That's Professor ?uesto." You’ve been warned, students!

Amber Tamblyn And David Cross: Was It The Coolest Celebrity Wedding Ever?

Amber Tamblyn David Cross Questlove The Roots Yo La Tengo Ryan Reynolds Blake Lively

Amber Tamblyn and David Cross' wedding may well be up there with the coolest celebrity nuptials ever after details of their big day surfaced online. We say 'details', we were actually treated to an Instagram album thanks to The Roots musician Questlove, who documented the day on his smartphone!

The ceremony - dubbed The Wedding in the Woods in an Instagram hashtag - took place on Saturday (October 6, 2012) and played host to a plethora of celebrity guests including Ryan Reynolds and his wife Blake Lively, comedienne Amy Poehler, Jason Ritter and Kristen Schaal. But that's not all; it seems the booked entertainment for the evening was equally as high profile, with rock filmmaker Lance Bangs sharing the details online, saying, "Yo La Tengo playing Superchunk, Mission of Burma, and Pixies covers at David and Amber's wedding." Cross' representative later confirmed to MTV News that Questlove also served as the evening's DJ.

Tamblyn, who next stars in Quentin Tarantino's 'Django Unchained', accepted her husband's marriage proposal in 2011 after the pair had dated for several years. Cross is currently working on the highly anticipated 'Arrested Development' reunion series and movie.
