Afropunk Fest 2013

Afropunk Fest is set to return to Brooklyn this year with a killer line-up celebrating the best of African Punk in recent history.

The festival will take place at Commodore Barry Park from August 24th - 25th and is currently in its ninth year since making its debut in 2005. Not only will the weekend see some incredible acts from the likes of Public Enemy's Chuck D alongside DJ Lord, California's Trash Talk and Questlove, but Afropunk will also be hosting their Rise + Shine yoga class, unveil their giant canvas Art Wall, filling you up with a wide variety of worldwide cuisine from tacos to lobster rolls, and their brilliantly unique bike show featuring a selection of custom motorcycle designs.

Back on music though, the event have also added some brilliant new acts including New York rockers Living Colour, Jada Pinkett Smith's band Wicked Wisdom, the relatively new kids in town White Mandingo and the very appropriately multicultural Pyyramids. The range of bands make Afropunk one of the most important festivals of the year, being all about the beauty of multi-culturalism and encouraging interaction between people of a variety of backgrounds.

This year there is free admission for those with RSVPs, though you can get guaranteed entry with a Guaranteed Admission Fast Pass for an extra donation of $25. $50 is the cost for a fast pass plus a T-shirt, while for $75 they'll throw in an Afropunk DVD.
