R. Kelly Leaves Live Interview After Controversial Questions Arise

R Kelly

Well, that was awkward. In probably one of the most uncomfortable celebrity interviews this year, R. Kelly walked out on presenter Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani after questions about his new album 'The Buffet' turned to his controversial past regarding multiple sex scandals.

R. KellyR. Kelly snubs negative line of questioning

It's not an uncommon theme amongst R. Kelly fans to feel a little at odds with him when it comes to their love of his music and their condemnation of his various past controversies, but it's clearly not something that the singer likes to talk about. In fact, he even went as far as to deny that he's heard any negativity towards him from his fans at all.

R. Kelly - The Buffet Album Review

The man who likes to be known as the King of R&B releases his 13th solo album, for which he reportedly recorded over 470 songs for during the last couple of years. The former collaborator of megastars such as Michael Jackson and Celine Dion will hope that it adds to his 40 million record sales in a career which has spanned a quarter of a century.

R. Kelly - The Buffet Album Review

Key to the success of the Chicago native has been an ability to mix mainstream successes like 'Ignition' and 'The World's Greatest' with the bedroom soundtracking likes of '12 Play'. We dive straight into the smut with 'The Poem' - which, you guessed it, is a poem - and carry through the likes of smooth jams like 'Anything Goes' and 'Let's Make Some Noise'. Even if you're able to stomach some of the analogies - Kelly promising this is all we can eat or literally slurping - there is nothing near the brilliant standards of 'Bump'n'Grind' or 'Your Body's Callin'. The album suddenly wakes on 'Marching Band', which features a superb brass hook, while 'Switch Up' features an urgent vocal delivery vastly different from the smooth tone the multiple Grammy winner usually presents.

Where 'The Buffet' is ultimately unsatisfying is that it all too readily returns to a monotonous tempo about intimate relations and Kelly doesn't get near the admittedly high standards of his past. Only 'Sextime' really captures the seduction he is capable of, while 'Backyard Party' is a fun number built around a funky guitar riff, it's a minor reprieve in the second half of the record. Ultimately, there's a lack of inspiration to the majority of this material, with only brief glimpses of Kelly's capabilities on show to give this release any degree of value.

Nobody Knows What To Make Of R Kelly's 'Black Panties,' Even The Critics

R Kelly

So, uh, R Kelly has a new album out and music critics across the land have taken it on, albeit grudgingly. The record is titled Black Panties, which really does encompass all the main themes and messages, so we could just end this here. Unfortunately, people still have to write about it online, because that’s how the music industry works.

R Kelly, American Music Awards
New album, same old song and dance.

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with liking R Kelly or Black Panties, despite a whole article’s worth of truly ridiculous lyrics. Take Entertainment Weekly’s Nick Catucci for example, who eloquently notes: “The virtues of prayer, marriage proposals, and pleasure-giving seamlessly combine when he sighs ''I wanna go down on my knees'' in ''Marry the P---y,'' while ''Shut Up'' spreads gospel to haters.”

Bonnaroo 2013 Lineup: Paul McCartney, Wu-Tang Clan, R KELLY!?

Sir Paul McCartney Wu Tang Clan R Kelly Tom Petty

The Bonnaroo 2013 lineup has been announced, with former Beatle Paul McCartney and Grammy winners Mumford & Sons topping the bill at the June event in Manchester, Tennessee. Other topline guests include veterans Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Icelandic singe Bjork, Wilco, the Wu-Tang Clan, A$AP Rocky and R. Kelly.

"Top to bottom, this is one of the strongest lineups we have ever had," Bonnaroo spokesman Jeff Cuellar said in an interview. "Looking at the festival landscape out there ... no other American festival has Mumford & Sons, Paul McCartney and Bjork all under one roof." The revellers at Bonnaroo - among the top live gatherings of the year - will no doubt agree, and this year's diverse lineup appears to offer something for everyone, particularly lower down the bill. Up to 100,000 fans will flock to the annual festival to see singers, comedians, arts and movies while enjoying unique performances from the likes of Weird Al Yankovic and ZZ Top. Former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne will also be in attendance, performing with St Vincent.

Though many have praised this year's Bonnaroo lineup, many long-time fans have been left with a palpable sense of déjà vu. Mumford and Sons appeared at the festival in 2011, while Tom Petty closed the main stage in 2006. Wilco, Animal Collective and various other acts have also played prominent slots over the years.

R. Kelly's Trapped In The Closet To Hit Broadway?

R Kelly

Between selling millions of records, dozens of controversial episodes and numerous relationships, R.Kelly managed to build up a cult following for his 'hipopera', Trapped in The Closet. And now it looks like his creation might be translated to Broadway.

"I don't have a job, so I sit in the studio all the time and think of stupid stuff to do. And this is just something stupid I've done that's been successful. I'm having a lot of fun with it," said R. Kelly in a Q&A session, after intimating that a Broadway version might be on the cards, according to Rolling Stone. "It's not hard somehow. When you commit to something and have fun with it, it appreciates you, the gift, and it starts to help you out," he added. "It cheats through things for you and it kind of writes itself. I'm having so much fun with this thing. I'm so committed to it, it just happens. It just continues to happen. Every time I put the track on, I hear these new stories and new characters."

Whitney Houston's Family Helped By 'The Houstons: On Our Own'

Whitney Houston R Kelly Celine Dion

For many, a new reality TV show that follows the family's every move wouldn't be an ideal way to aid the grieving process after a dramatic death, but for Whitney Houston's family, 'The Houstons: On Our Own' has been a great help.

"The show has kept the family close together, (instead of) isolated from one another. We talk about things, we are very open, and we pay attention to the ones who need consoling the most. Doing the show certainly has helped in a huge way," Pat Houston, Whitney's manager and sister-in-law, told Reuters. "There are preconceptions about the family that just aren't true. We are a strong family, a working family, and a typical family. Our family member just happens to be an icon," she added. "You will see a family that is grieving, that loves one another. You will see a family that is trying to move on."

The reality TV show makes its debut this Wednesday (October, 24) and will set the stage for a November of tributes to the troubled singer, who tragically passed away earlier on in 2012 after drowning in the bathtub, having taken cocaine. Upcoming projects include an official glossy book of photos, a compilation album of Houston's biggest hits that features a new duet version of "I Look To You" with R. Kelly, and the November 16 TV broadcast of a special Grammy tribute starring Jennifer Hudson, Usher and Celine Dion.

R-Kelly’s Trapped In The Closet In Line For Its Next Chapter

R Kelly

R-Kelly’s ‘Hip Hopera’, Trapped in the Closet – the infamous R&B melodrama – is due an update, with another chapter on the cards. The next instalment returna on Nov. 23 at 9 p.m. on IFC, reports Entertainment Weekly.

Many questions remained unanswered when the credits rolled on the last chapter; What would become of Sylvester and Twan? What was this “package” that everybody kept talking about? Does Pimp Lucius have more secrets? And what of Big Man? All these questions are due to be covered when 10, yes you heard it right, 10 new episodes hit the internet, starting late November. Fans of the series will be delighted to hear that everyone’s favourite musical soap opera is returning, although most of it’s loyal fans view the series via an ironic sense of sympathy rather than a genuine desire to glean the next nugget of tasty R&B sung gossip. We love every minute of it.

R. Kelly, who’s career took a strange turn when he decided to do these songs, announced that there will be a return of many cast members including Rufus, Gwendolyn, Big Man and Rosie the Nosy Neighbour. These chapters will be released under the title Trapped in the Closet: The Next Installment and will be released in Fall 2012.

R Kelly Is Back: Trapped In The Closet Episode 23 Announced.

R Kelly

R Kelly is back with his bizarre soap opera Trapped in The Closet.

It’s been a few years since the R&B star has, erm, ‘treated’ us to any new episodes but Entertainment Weekly have revealed that episode 23 will be aired on IFC on November 23, 2012. This latest batch of shows runs for 10 episodes but Kelly hasn’t put a cap on how many of the shows he’s planning to produce, so don’t place any bets on this being the last we see of Kelly’s oddball show.

A sneak preview of episode 23 is being hosted on Entertainment Weekly right now but how many questions posed by episode 22’s cliff-hangers will actually be answered? Fans of the show will no doubt be wanting to know what the hell happens to Twan and Sylvester, Pimp Lucius’ secrets were causing a stir last time around so we’re all wondering what he’s got up his sleeve, too… and of course – the question on everybody’s lips: what on earth was this ‘package’ that everyone’s on about?

Kanye West Breaks His Silence Over ‘Cruel Summer’ Mixtape

Kanye West Jay Z R Kelly 2 Chainz Raekwon Ghostface Killah Kim Kardashian

Kanye West has finally broken his silence over his new mixtape, Cruel Summer. The notoriously media-shy West has, until now, left it up to some of the other stars on the compilation to spread the world about this week’ album release. Now, though, Kanye himself is appearing in a black and white interview clip, hosted on YouTube. Cruel Summer features not only Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music crew, but also the likes of Jay-Z, R. Kelly, 2 Chainz, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah. “This isn't the beginning of the conversation; this isn't the end of the conversation, explains West. It's our offering as a collective of a sonic snapshot of what's happening right now 2012, this Cruel Summer.”

Explaining how the album came together, he explained “we started out getting everyone in the lab together… one track might have thirty people’s opinions on it. It’s not just about a tracklist and a name. It’s about the communal style of work.” He also explained that the artwork to Cruel Summer played a vital part in shaping its sound, He would have the artwork in front of him whilst he recorded the tracks and would ask himself “does this album sound like the artwork looks?”

A few snippets of Cruel Summer had already been leaked before it was even released. And much had been made of some of Kanye’s lyrics, especially those that are about his new girlfriend Kim Kardashian. One choice rhyme from Kanye references Kim’s notorious sex tape: “Eat breakfast at Gucci. My girl a superstar all from a home movie.” Stay classy, yeah Kanye?
