Randy Jackson is facing divorce from his wife of eighteen years

TMZ was first to report the news. The couple had a plan to file the papers, but Erika Jackson decided to file on Friday, citing irreconcible differences. She is seeking full physical and joint legal custody of their seventeen year old son Jordan. Their grown daughter, Zoe, is not mentioned in the documents. Erika is also seeking spousal support and the cost of her attorney's fees. Randy's marriage to Erika was his second, having previously been married to Elizabeth Jackson, with whom he also has a daughter. He split with Elizabeth in 1990 and has been married to Erika for eighteen years.

Jackson is best known for his long-running role as a judge on 'American Idol'. He was a judge for twelve seasons of the hit show before leaving in 2013, although he returned in the thirteenth season in a different capacity as the show's in-house mentor, replacing Jimmy Lovine. The fifty-eight year old rose to fame as a bassist, working as a session musician for artists including Journey and Bob Dylan and Jon Bon Jovi. He was also recruited to an all-star band by The Rolling Stones' Keith Richards in 1985 for the film Jumpin' Jack Flash. Jackson has also worked as a music producer, a band manager, and a radio host.

He managed fellow 'American Idol' judge Mariah Carey and produced some of her music for many years after meeting her in the 1990s, but Carey dropped him as her manager earlier this year.

There has been no comment from Jackson or his representative about the divorce.
