Fact: The pilot episode of Reba McEntire's new TV show has been picked up by bosses at America's ABC network. The country music star will play a small town Kentucky sheriff who teams up with a young FBI agent of Middle Eastern descent to solve a disturbing crime in the series, from the mind of Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry. Reba will also produce the series with Cherry, who has written the script for the pilot.

Fact: Country star Reba McEntire treated one lucky audience member to a special TV serenade as part a comedy segment on America's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday (12Aug15). The singer teamed up with host Jimmy Fallon to invade the fan's personal space for the funny duet, which was part of the appropriately-titled Close-Up Serenade sketch. The appearance marked MCEntire's first TV gig since announcing her split from husband Narvel Blackstock earlier this month (Aug15).

The singer reveals she was stunned to discover just how many people go hungry across America every day and she is determined to do her part to change that. She explains of her own upbringing, "We had cattle, we had some hogs. We didn't have a garden, but Aunt Jenny did. We always had food. I just can't fathom going hungry... I was shocked when they told me one out of six people are hungry in this nation, the land of the plenty! It doesn't matter where you live, in the city or the country, if you cannot get access to food, you and your family will be hungry, and that is so sad. Children can't learn and parents can't work when they're hungry."
