Rebel Wilson (born 03.02.1986)
Rebel Wilson is an Australian actress and comedian.
Childhood: Rebel Wilson was born in Sydney, Australia. Her parents were dog handlers. In high school, she particularly enjoyed mathematics which she originally considered as a career. She attended the University of New South Wales, studying Law and Arts. She was once a Rotary International Youth Ambassador for Australia and, while based in South Africa for a year, contracted malaria which gave her hallucinations which inspired her to become an actress. She studied at the Australian Theatre for Young People and moved to New York after landing the ATYP International scholarship funded by Nicole Kidman. In New York, she trained with The Second City.
Comedy and acting career: Rebel Wilson first garnered attention with stage musical 'The Westie Monologues' which she followed up with 'Spunks and Confessions of an Exchange Student'. In Australia, she starred in the comedy shows 'Pizza' and 'The Wedge'. She has appeared in the films 'Fat Pizza' and 'Ghost Rider'. In 2008, she created the musical comedy series 'Bogan Pride' as well as starring in 'Monster House'. In 2009, she had an award-winning role in the film 'Bargain'. She has also featured on the comedy shows 'Thank God You're Here' and 'Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation' as well as performing stand up on 'The Breast Darn Show In Town'. In the States, she landed a role in Judd Apatow's 'Bridesmaids' opposite Matt Lucas. She later appeared in sitcoms 'Rules of Engagement' and 'Workaholics'. In 2010, she co-hosted the ARIA Music Awards and teamed with Lucas yet again in a performance at the Variety's Power of Comedy event. In 2011, she appeared in 'A Few Best Men' alongside Olivia Newton-John, Kevin Bishop and Kris Marshall. 2012 saw her in 'Small Apartments' again with Matt Lucas as well as Billy Crystal, Juno Temple and James Marsden. She also appeared in comedy music film 'Pitch Perfect' with Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin, Anna Camp, Brittany Snow and Ester Dean and won the MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance. She voiced the character of Raz in 2012's 'Ice Age: Continental Drift'.
Personal life: Rebel Wilson was a spokeswoman for nutrition company Jenny Craig, and while she lost 10 kilograms with them, she was banned from further weight loss while working on 'Pitch Perfect'. She lives with her frequent co-star Matt Lucas in West Hollywood.
Rebel Wilson has won her defamation lawsuit against Bauer Media, after the publishers alleged she lied about her age and childhood upbringing.
Rebel Wilson has emerged triumphant in her defamation case against publishing conglomerate Bauer Media in Australia.
A jury comprised of six people spent two days in deliberations, during which they considered eight potentially defamatory magazine articles published by outlets owned by Bauer, including Woman’s Day and Australian Women’s Weekly, and also considered 40 questions to guide them.
They handed their verdict to the supreme court of Victoria on Thursday (June 15th), finding that the 37 year old star of Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids was defamed by Bauer Media when those publications they own accused her of lying about her age and childhood upbringing.

37 year old 'Bridesmaids' star Wilson is suing Bauer Media over a string of 2015 articles that claimed she lied about her age and childhood.
Lawyers for film star Rebel Wilson have told an Australian court that her “world collapsed” when a series of articles published by Bauer Media in 2015 portrayed her as a liar, in a defamation lawsuit brought by the actress against the publisher.
As the case brought by the 37 year old Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids star, real name Melanie Elizabeth Bownds, began in court in Melbourne on Monday (May 22nd), her lawyer Matthew Collins QC claimed that articles claiming that Wilson lied about her age, name and upbringing appeared in several of Bauer Media’s publications, including Woman’s Day and Australian Women’s Weekly.

Wilson, 36, recalls the point at which she realised she might be able to use her weight to her advantage in the movie industry.
Comedy actress Rebel Wilson has revealed that she deliberately gained weight early on in her career and used to her “advantage”.
The 36 year old actress, who has racked up a large amount of starring roles in comedies like Bridesmaids and Grimsby, but is probably best known for her role as Fat Amy in the Pitch Perfect movies, was interviewed by the Daily Telegraph.
Asked about her size and how she felt about it probably being the most recognised aspect of her fame, she revealed that she once wrote a play and cast herself alongside a much larger girl, and quickly noticed that her co-star was being better received – which she ascribed to her weight.

Wilson made the revelation in an interview with Marie Claire UK, for whom she is the July cover star.
Rebel Wilson has revealed why she has so far refused to get involved with nude scenes in her movies, saying that it’s because she’s mainly starred in comedies throughout her career and that the genre tends to treat the issue with less sensitivity.
Speaking in the July edition of Marie Claire, the 36 year old Australian star said that she was recently asked to take her clothes off for a scene is Sacha Baron Cohen’s new comedy Grimsby (known as The Brothers Grimsby in the U.S.) but that she refused.

Adele ridiculed the suggestion, saying that it had only come about because she and Wilson were both "plus-sized".
A recent article in the Daily Star suggested that the Australian stand-up comedian, and a star of light-hearted movies such as Pitch Perfect and How To Be Single was interested in the role so she could “prove she can cut it as a serious actress”.
However, the 27 year old British singer used her Tuesday night gig at London’s O2 Arena to ridicule the content of the report, denying that there was even a film in which to cast Wilson in the first place.

There isn't much originality in this rude female-led comedy, but its observations on single life are a nicely updated twist on the Sex and the City formula. The film is also often very funny, keeping the energy levels high while refusing to go down the usual narrative route in each of the loosely intertwined plot-strands.
It's set in New York, of course, where Alice (Dakota Johnson) is newly single and starting a new job. Her colleague Robin (Rebel Wilson) takes her under her wing, teaching her how to be single in the big city. Alice's sister Meg (Leslie Mann) is a maternity doctor who's suddenly feeling the need to have a child of her own. Then just as she becomes pregnant using a sperm bank, she meets the outrageously charming Ken (Jake Lacy), who she thinks might be too young for her. Meanwhile, Alice's neighbour Lucy (Alison Brie) is flirting with the womanising local barman Tom (Anders Holm) as she looks for her perfect man.
Yes, this is another movie in which women define themselves by their aching need for a man. This kind of undermines the "you have to be happy on your own" message, although at least the three main romantic-comedy plots don't fit into the usual cliched structure. The film is packed with frank, girly conversations, exploring how it feels to be single in a society in which coupling up is seen as the ultimate goal. So while commenting on every possible aspect of sex and relationships, the script also tries to say that it's perfectly fine to remain happily unattached. Thankfully, the cast is grounded enough to balance the comedy and romance in realistic situations. Johnson, Brie and Mann all deliver funny, revealing performances as smart women who make silly decisions. Wilson, by contrast, is mere comic relief in the same role she always plays.

Rebel Wilson has taken the world by storm after arriving in America five years ago.
Since then, her career has included Bridesmaids, two Pitch Perfect hits, the last Night at the Museum romp and now the rom-com How to Be Single.
"I think I came to Hollywood at the exact right time," she says, "because my first job was Bridesmaids. I auditioned for Melissa McCarthy's role and didn't get it, but they liked me so much they added me into the film. And then that movie was just a massive hit the following year. And that spawned all these amazing female comedies, including Pitch Perfect. In these female ensembles the women can be outrageous and bawdy. I think it's becoming the norm. Now they're really encouraging us to do more R-rated, super-edgy, honest kind of material."

The Australian actress really laid into the Kardashians and the exposure they enjoy in a new radio interview.
Rebel Wilson is most certainly not a fan of the Kardashians. The Pitch Perfect star took aim at the first family of American television in a new interview, saying that their fame and exposure is “not really based on talent”.
“I got asked to present with Kendall and Kylie [Jenner] at the recent MTV VMAs and I said, 'No.' I said I'd do it myself,” the comic actress revealed. Apparently, if it had happened, the bit would have involved Rebel dressing up as Kendall and Kylie’s elder half-sister Kim Kardashian. Thank God that didn’t happen, with Wilson ultimately presenting the award for Best Hip Hop Video alone wearing a police stripper costume.
